Hummingbird, possibly an Anna's X Rufous Hybrid, Orange County, California

Red crown and throat of Anna's Hummingbird, Rufous colored sides. Taking a break from sipping Bird of Paradise nectar, crown and throat coloration was obvious while feeding.

? i would have just called it as Rufous but I'm not any world hummingbird expert just somebody who gets a Rufous or three in the yard in the winter...

    • I'm not an expert either. Color on throat and head was quite red, not as orange as Rufous or Allen's, also color crown more typical for Anna's but the color on sides throws me.

Either way, was nice watching it flit from flower to flower and then take a little break.

  • Look at that beak-to-body ratio! :P
