They're named after a town in Dorset, so must be pretty common, but I'd never heard of them before.
Holy shit! This explains a lot. Stayed overnight in Derby. Had a fever that night and sudden back pain. Woke up covered in bites that needed antibiotics to clear up.
1 0 ReplyThat sounds more like bed bugs. No reported cases of blandford fly in derby, confirmed or unconfirmed.
Where were the bites? All over? It’s rare to get a blandford bite above the lower leg.
5 0 ReplyHuh. Ok, I stand corrected. Bites were on my face, mostly.

Heard of them because of the beer.
1 0 ReplyNo. Is it painful?
0 0 ReplySurprisingly so! Blisters, large burning swollen area and joint pain. (WTF this is a 2mm fly!)
Oh and anti-histamine cream causes adverse skin reactions! (burns like merry hell)
