New phone with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus: should I still buy a screen protector?

Basically the title, I received a new price with a significant price tag (at least for me). My previous ones I didn’t care much so they weren’t protected. Given that I’d like to keep this one in good shape I’d like to know your experiences: does it still make sense to buy screen protectors nowadays? If so, also on newer quality screens like Gorilla Glass Victus? Thank you for your feedback

Got an S23 Ultra. Did nothing that I know of to cause, never keys in same pocket or anything. Have two 3mm long scratches in screen first week. Get the protector.
- Got an S23 Ultra. Drove the box truck at work, tucked phone under leg after connecting Bluetooth. Forgot about phone, got out of truck. Phone fell, screen went all green. Get a case and a protector.

Gorilla Glass Victus is just a marketing term. It's still glass, and glass breaks (and gets scratched). Always use a screen protector. If your phone has curved edges on the front, a case is also mandatory because curved screens are very easy to break.

If you want to keep it free of cracks, a screen protector will do the trick. Even newer screens will get cracks if they're set down too roughly, and screen protectors will will absorb that shock instead of the thin glass screen.

On my previous phones, I never applied a screen protector. For my current one, I did because the oleophobic wore off, so I had to get one to not deal with the stickiness and roughness that increases with time. Plus, a screen protector costs way less than an actual display replacement. So, I made the choice.

- The main thing about having a screen protector to me is it having a bonus oleophobic coating besides the one that comes with your phone (and gets worn off with shit like hand sanitizer).
  That means I can just chuck another one on when it eventually turns to shit and / or I wanna sell / give the phone away and I wouldn't worry too much about "brands".
- My screen is rated Gorilla Glass Victus 2, and within 2 days of normal use (in out of front pocket) it had already developped tiny light scratches on the surface. Looking at jerryrigeverything on youtube showed how little the scratch test differed from gorrila 6 to this. So yes i would recommend getting a screen protector.
  My current screen protector is the first time i get glass, and i'm glad it fixed one of the issues i have with protectors. Which is that you lose the feel of the original screen, and i always had issues with how rugged/sticky it felt. The glass i have dosent have those issues.
  I went with the very popular whitestone dome and am very happy with it, but talking to friends it seems the installation method for those are more complex than others like spigen which would just be a simple application where the whitestone one has to cure with UV amongst other things.

Imo screen protectors are the single most worth while protection. Way slimmer than a case and protect to most vulnerable/important side of the phone
They're a no-brainer on flat phones imo, ones with curved sides like S23U or Pixel 7 Pro are a bit finicky tho
- As someone who buys a phone for 5+ years, I don't know why I never got into glass screen protectors. The past two years with a glass protector made my s20fe still have that brand new feel to it, and all it cost me was half a dozen protectors for $3 each.

I'd buy one if possible. My Note 20 Ultra has Victus, and after not running a screen protector for a while, it has a small chip in the display. Nothing that affects functionality, but it's noticeable under certain light. If you wanna keep it pristine, get a protector

You don't need a screen protector if you have a good case. The only time you'd crack it is if the screen landed on something sticking up out of the ground.

I’ve literally never had a scratched or cracked screen and I don’t use a case or screen protector. What are you people doing with your phones?
- you probably didn't look hard enough, simply carrying my phone in my pocket and taking it out as usual had given it very small light scratches on it (Gorilla Glass Victus 2). It's purely cosmetic but still there
  
  No… I’m looking hard enough. My phone is 2 years old and doesn’t have any cracks or scratches.
- Using them? I can understand not getting cracked screens but I think avoiding scratches entirely especially across multiple phones would be a significant feat unless you just really baby your phones.
  
  I use mine every day for hours at a time for personal use and for work. I must baby it although I don’t consider that an accurate description of my usage. I’ve never dropped any of my phones, though, except maybe on carpet. I must just be more deliberate than others in my use.
