Amazing Okapis

Residing in the German Leipzig Zoo, this Okapi presents itself as a captivating blend of the animal kingdom. Originating from the Ituri Rainforest in the Democratic Republic of Congo, this peculiar creature, though bearing zebra-like stripes, is in fact the giraffe's solitary kin. Its distinctively patterned legs coupled with a lustrous reddish-brown coat render it an expert at forest camouflage.

Remarkably, the Okapi sports an impressive 18-inch prehensile tongue, a dexterous tool for both feeding and grooming. Despite its evident charm and peculiar traits, the Okapi remained a well-kept secret from the Western world until the early 20th century - a testament to its superb adaptation to the dense rainforest.
