How easy is it to use Pathfinder Pawns Bases or similar, with your own printouts?
How easy is it to use Pathfinder Pawns Bases or similar, with your own printouts?
Has anyone here used Pathfinder Pawns, or similar products, using your own printouts on the purchased plastic bases? Do you need to buy Paizo’s Pawns products or other specially-designed pawns on very thick jigsaw-puzzle-lock stock? Or can you print out anything yourself on a heavy (like, 200 or 300 gsm) card stock?
Basically, how thick does the printout need to be to stay stable and upright in a Pawns Base?
I haven't used Pathfinder Pawns specifically, but I've crafted hundreds of paper minis from peintableheroes.com and others. What I did? Standard printer, standard paper and a cheap laminator. This gives you a far more resilient mini than cardstock. And bases are easily craftable as well. I've seen suggestions for using glue and old coins, bulldog clips, etc. What I actually used were 1 inch felt pads designed to go on the bottom of furniture. I would then print a ground/grass/stone texture and stick that to the adhesive side and cut a slit into them for the paper mini. This gave me flexible and cheap bases that I could use with the TV screen I was using for battlemaps without worrying about scratches
I have the PDF files and printed them on A4, then glued 2 blank A4 together and glued the PDF prints on either side of that. Gave it enough thickness and we are still using them a few years later. Took a while to do all the gluing but I would say it was worth it for us.
For the stands I bought some bull clips to stand them upright while waiting for an Amazon order of these
They were cheaper at the time I bought them but they hold the pawns well.
