Across many social platforms, especially Twitch, there has been rumor that politics only continue to contaminate and ruin our precious video games. In order to…
Video games are art and art is the greatest weapon in our arsenal for making statements. Its also why right-wing "art" always fucken sucks and has no soul.
Yes, realism is garbage reactionary art because realism is a garbage reactionary philosophy. Reality was invented by racist old white guys to justify slavery.
Very debatable. For a very long time almost all art in Europe was inspired by religion: architecture, painting, music, sculpture... It's as right wing as can be (no hint of progressive ideas). But I'll be damned if I don't appreciate a good Fra Angelico, a Gothic cathedral, or Mozart's requiem. I'm sure there must exist aesthetically pleasing Nazi artworks, out of context (SS uniforms are famously fashionable)
It always sucks because it's propaganda. No don't listen to that evil devil music that talks about real shit, listen to this Jesus music that just talks about how great Jesus is and how feeling things is bad.
These are some good quotes here, and I realize this is slightly off topic but:
The whole thing with Aloy having peach fuzz.
I just... I still cannot get over that.
How... how is it even possible that a great number of people who ostensibly clamored for more realistic graphics... screamed and cried about peach fuzz on a young woman.
The... seemingly the only possible explanation is that they had simply never actually seen a girl or womans face up close.
It still just shocks me that that outburst was even a thing that could possibly happen.
Like, I am an autistic and often socially awkward guy, a video gamer through and through since the 90s.
But I've had female platonic friends my whole life, and girlfriends.
And I know that girls/women, -shock horror- even many young guys and young men have peach fuzz!
a surprising number of gamers (not actually surprising) who've never seen a woman up close, and
a number who have, but still want only the purest fantasy women in their games.
In a world where butthole bleaching and completely hairless vulvas exist, there's going to be a lot of people who like women but only if you modify and reshape them to their personal standards of perfection. In other words, they know what real women are like, they just don't want that, and they won't be happy until that changes for them.
So what you're saying is, these men aren't straight. They've seen what a woman looks like, and they're not interested. What they want is a new gender that looks a lot like a woman but without any humanity or "flaws". They're only attracted to a specific kind of nonexistent enby.
I have unironically received exactly that kind of criticism for having this opinion before, and I have received it from incel misogynist men, as well as seemingly misguided women and individuals of all kinds of different non cis genders.
Both of these kinds of people have accused me of being performatively baffled, as if i am simply doing this disingenuously to build a cult social media following or something.
EDIT: Elsewhere on the internet, not here on lemmy.
I don't get why people get so riled up about things like that. Like the whole starfield thing, the dumbass gender debate. I played forza horizon with a friend because we both had gamepass for a month and he couldn't stop being weird about that they have body type 1 or 2, instead of male or female. People modding out rainbow flags out of spider man, and it becoming one of the more popular mods for the game. I couldn't imagine caring enough.
Do not forget the absolute insanity of Trans People Are Not Allowed To Exist in CYBERPUNK 2077, you know a game about a genre of challenging social conventions that has long historical crossover with the Trans Movement and community.
It's like someone took the onion, but made it retarded.
Like the:
Nintendo Announces Lawsuit Against Moms Who Call Other Consoles “Nintendo”
Is genuine good shit.
But the rest of this site is such garbage. The beauty of The Onion is that the stories are believable.
Edit: Okay, the site isn't half bad. It's a little hit or miss with the articles, and the most recent page is terrible, but if you dig into it a couple pages deep they have some good stuff. :D
Nah. I have a habit of collecting them, but I haven't really run across anything that feels that way - I don't really play a lot of titles, I tend to get deeply into 1 or 2 at a time -- for YEARS, before moving onto other things. I think I've only truly played maybe a dozen games that I've really gotten into. Most of the Zelda games, ARK, Warframe, Path of Exile, etc. And I generally don't buy games immediately when they're out, so maybe I'm just missing the hype cycle?
