Alternatives to Open Subtitles?
I'm not a fan of the turns Open Subtitles has made toward monetisation, ad injection etc. — particularly not considering the unpaid volunteer work that has gone into their offerings. The straw that broke the camel's back for me was their "AI" subtitles, though.
I don't know if they sincerely think what they're doing is related to AI, the results I've had the misfortune of downloading was subpar speech-to-text gibberish. And from what I can tell they're even charging for generating those.
So, as I ask in the title, what alternatives to Open Subtitles are currently available for Kodi? I've used Subscene in the past but the add-on stopped working — or maybe I just need to look into the settings again?
You could use what bazarr uses: https://github.com/morpheus65535/bazarr (or use bazarr to enrich the media before playing)
Whether these have Kodi addons i'm not sure, but I'm sure there might be other alternatives.

If you have a graphics card with at least 4GB of vRAM using Whisper to auto generate with the latest Large model will produce pretty amazing results. Even when people mumble or have thick accents.
Ah yes, bazarr could be a workaround. Another incitement to get my *arr box set up again!
Have you set up anything else since posting this? Also curious about it. I haven't come across any generated subtitles (I think), but had some problems after updating Kodi and the add-on no longer working.
