Not so fun fact: When Aaron joined the reddit team, the other founders agreed Aaron deserved the title of founder too.
A couple years after that, Spez openly bitched in a thread that Aaron shouldn't be calling himself a founder. Aaron responded saying that it was part of the original deal but if Spez, or the other guy, wanted Aaron to stop saying he's a founder then the two just needed to ask. They never did. Aaron died.
Reddit proceeds to grow. Site changes. Site gets a founders page. Aaron is listed alongside Steve and Alexis.
A couple years ago when Steve took over as CEO and started to abuse his admin powers to edit OTHER people's comments, he also removed Aaron from the founders list for no reason and with no warning. When people noticed, he hid the page. It's hard to find now but if you do? Aaron's name is nowhere to be seen.
Yep. A couple years ago there was news that someone working at reddit was a pedophile sympathizer. Turns out an employee lived with her father. Said father was a known pedophile. She defended him, and pedophilia, in the past. People were enraged. Reddit took a very long time to fire her despite the fact that it triggered a reddit wide protest.
Spez hired her directly and didn't want to fire her.
Then there's the fact that Spez was a mod of the jailbait pedo subreddit. Now... At that time you could add anyone to the sub mod team and it would auto accept the invitation. That was the line going around saying why Spez was on the mod list. However given the fact he's praising Elon Musk, a known pedophile sympathizer with ties to Epstein, and refused to fire a pedophile sympathizer he hired?
Doesn't make Steve Huffman look like anything other than someone who's hiding one very dark secret.
we need to set an instance/community in his name that documents all the greed aspects of internet companies and the sustainable and user friendly alternatives to fight those: like firefox is to Chrome, invidious, odysee, the fediverse, vpns, alternatives to isps (?) , i2p and p2p, Libgen, Anna's archive ...
Founder of Reddit and one of the developers of the RSS standard.
Huge Free speach advocate and very against intellectual "property". He wanted knowledge to be free and accessible for everyone and killed himself after he was accused of things that could've brought him to prison for a very long time. He probably did these things which are kinda similar to things Sci-Hub does nowadays.
You got some good answers already but I just wanted to add...
The DOJ overcharged the hell out of him. Non violent, first time offender looking at decades? They were putting the screws on him in the hopes he'd plea, again to an unreasonable amount of time. Feels unethical to me.
Honestly fuck Steve or Skete or Spez or whatever his fucking name is (I know it’s Steve, just venting), the guys’s a tool. What baffles me is how users of deceased third party apps (RIP Apollo) can continue using the site and supporting it after it’s been publicly made what a liar he is.
