Hey everyone, I'm thinking for this one rather than posting a review thread like I normally do, we can just chat.
Has anyone picked it up? If so what are your thoughts so far? If you haven't picked it up, are you enticed by what you've seen in reviews and impressions? Do you have concerns? Also, if anyone here has played the first one, how do you like or dislike the changes they've made?
Personally, I am 90% certain I'm gonna pick it up. Tonally it looks hilarious, and gameplaywise it looks very tactical and visceral. I also think the price is just right for me to be a bit impulsive ($40). I'm trying to hype my friend group up to see if we can get a party together. If not, then I'll probably wait for them to patch the issue with public matchmaking on PS5 before I pick it up.
Randomly watched the Kindafunny gameplay on Thursday. I was interested because it felt like Division 2 and Starship Troopers had a baby based on the gameplay trailers. Game looked really fun and Greg gave it an initial 5/5 based on a day of playing on stream. Managed to convince my best friend in Australia to pick it up as well on PS5. It’s $40 and I had PS credit, so it felt like a steal.
I’ve been playing all weekend, when I’m not playing, I’m thinking about it. At first matchmaking wasn’t working, I really enjoyed the easy solo missions and then finally on Saturday our timezones aligned and we played doubles. This game is so fun with other people, the accidental friendly fire is hilarious at times and makes you strategic with where you shoot and walk.
It isn’t perfect, visually a little glitchy at times and the climbing is terrible, but I’m excited to unlock the jump pack. I can also see it getting repetitive without new content in the future, fingers crossed they planned ahead.
The battle pass doesn’t feel predatory, you collect the currency while playing and get the premium currency to unlock the paid battle pass. If you play a lot, you likely won’t need to spend any more!
I’ve been playing Cyberpunk and felt uncertain about it, sometimes it has too much going on… this game is mindless fun but also challenging and unpredictable.
Right now it’s my favorite game of the year (early I know). Now the matchmaking works and once my Pulse Elite arrive, this might be my main game for a while!
Based on your mention in the other thread, I watched the KF video where they talked about it. I usually align with Greg's opinion on most games. I can't wait to jump in...FOR DEMOCRACY!
I've picked it up on PC. So far the matchmaking doesn't work. But I've been playing with a group of friends. So far I love the game. I originally enjoyed the first one. But I think this one really expanded the combat of the game.
Also the difference between the aliens and robots is awesome. Just played against the robots for the first time last night.
We've also only had a couple crashes over a few days of playing. And no issues with frame rate and graphics.
For 40 bucks? Worth it in my opinion. If playing alone though, I would wait for the matchmaking patch.
I just copy paste what I posted on different topic below:
As the victim of the AMD 7000 series crashes, after tweak my settings through community help and my personal adaptation the crash is almost non-existent now. While the game can still be jank at times, it’s probably the best coop game by a mile. As the difficulty ramping up, more and more coordination is required, long wolfing will rarely work against some harder objectives as you would be required to do split works “while” defending the “operator”(diver that operate on gears and can't shoot) and objective area. There are plenty of mission type when level goes higher as well. To unlock better ship module upgrades requires mission samples you have to extract with the divers. That pretty much require you to explore more during mission, expose you to more risk, and make the mission time go longer. It’s very risk and reward and require on the fly decision making, almost all the time and plan can all be thrown off the table if people make very innocent mistakes. (like running away from enemies and ended up attracting even more enemies.)
If you are not fan of unstable stuff, maybe wait a month or 2, but IMO it’s very fun especially if you find groups of people to work together.
Only been able to play a few rounds, but definitely more fun when playing with others. Have been surprised by terminid vermin creeping up on me once or twice :)
Tonally on point, and looking forward to it improving over time.
I grabbed it day one and I've been playing it a lot. It's good, but I don't think it will have much of a lifespan.
I've played around 50 missions, and while I wouldn't say it's getting repetitive, I know that inevitably I'll unlock most of the weapons and upgrades and not have much incentive to keep playing.
One thing I haven't seen anyone talk about is how great the adaptive triggers and rumble feels. My controllers click and clack in a really satisfying way pretty much the whole time I'm playing.
The difficulty is pretty insane, and I feel like they'll tune it down pretty soon. There's a slight power curve as you unlock upgrades, for sure, but I get the feeling most people won't spend too much time playing above Medium, which is the third out of nine difficulty ratings.
Overall, it's a fun and well designed shooter that's great to play with friends, but I expect the player base will fall off hard after about a month, if that.
IMO, the game become totally different around lv6-7 area and strategy is really needed for mission to work well. I've seen my group running, failing and have to adapt to the new difficulty changes and thinking about how we unlock stuff to work together better. If you are good FPS player you can certainly solo mission up to even lv5, but upon lv6 the likely hood to solo decrease rapidly depending on mission type. Even the best player in our group(currently unlocks almost everything) have difficulty staying alive at lv7 and have to change play style a bit. As you can't get the Super Sample(purple ones) unless you are playing lv7+ and extract successfully.
