- A 63-year-old man died on a Lufthansa flight on Thursday, according to
Swiss-German outlet Blick. - Witnesses told the outlet the man had blood gushing
from his nose and mouth. - The witnesses said passengers were screaming at the
sight.
I guess for some folks this is all quite hilarious, but on the more serious tip:
From what I understand, the man was in late-stage cirrhosis, which heavily undermined both his blood-clotting ability and the integrity of his blood vessel walls. Evidently due to air pressure issues and the drinking of hot tea, two veins in his throat area burst, and it was like turning on a spigot, with no way to turn it off.
A pretty chilling cautionary tale against being a chronic alcoholic and flying, I guess.
