This post is woefully inaccurate. Firstly, all the revanced mod does is change the 3rd party API to a personal developer API. Not one single user has had any problems doing this as this API is offered for users to make and use apps. There's a call limit for everyone's personal API so it can't be abused.
This issue is from something separate... KoalaS made an IfR clone that uses the official Reddit app API. This is easily detectible and a really stupid decision to make, and an even dumber decision to use.
TLDR: this has nothing to do with revanced mods, just a really stupid specific cloned app
Edit: Never use a pre-made modded APK for this. If you do, you will be sharing an API with others and that could put your account at risk. Always patch your own app with your own API.
Seems quite stupid to tryp to spoof the official app, I guess personal revanced app are still here for long
you do it without understanding the possible consequences
you do it in a way that can be detected
It's not stupid if:
you are aware of the potential consequences and you consider it an acceptable risk
you are very confident that it won't be detected
For example I use a similar method to access Discord and I am aware that my account might get banned if this is detected. It's a calculated risk that I am ok with.
Agreed. It was headed that way but most of us, including me, ignored the warning signs. I should've quit when they cancelled Reddit Gifts giving some lame bs reason. I should've quit when they launched new Reddit with all it's ads and tracking crap. I should've quit when they started turning the site into more mainstream social media. But I still continued because I was mostly shielded from all that by third-party apps, and sticking to niche communities and staying away from r/all. But the API thing was the last straw for me, if there was any proof Spez was the next Zuckerberg, that was it, that was all the motivation I needed to quit.
My Reddit accounts usually got banned for one dumb reason or another anyhow. I'll never forget my first and longest account getting the insta axe for saying everyone should punch Nazis.
My first ban was telling people to remember to get their butts checked for cancer on a post announcing the death of someone (who died from colon cancer).
We know Redditors don't read articles, and I was trying to be helpful because that's how people like Total biscuit died.
I got an account suspended, not banned, full site-wide suspension by the admins literally for saying I didn't like a comic. No profanity, no racism, no trolling, it was a parent level comment so not snapping back at anyone. It said something along along the lines of (paraphrasing as I don't remember the exact words) "Has anyone noticed that webcomics are never funny?" That;'s it. Site-wide account suspension .
I lost mine just before the app shutdown for calling a right wing troll a loser. They said I repeatedly violated rules and perma banned me. All I can figure is I got bombed with reports or the admin handling my appeal is one of them
It's so random, too. One admin/mod might give you a warning (I'm just kidding, warnings are never given, it's always the harshest punishment) for one thing and another might IP ban you for the same or even a less egregious thing.
