Like the parallel is staring you in the face - China and the US "ostensibly compete for space and resources", but which one is constantly at war to reach those ends?

Also, it's all but said in the first game that Super Earth attacks the Illuminate because they want to steal their technology
They attack the Cyborgs for ideological reasons and they attack the Terminids because they turn their corpses into a substance called E-710 (Oil) that they use as fuel
