I was already using the official Reddit app, and I own being dumb as a brick.
But I still decided to leave because of the IPO, which will unavoidably make the site cater more and more to a mainstream audience until it eventually turns to shit. I call it the Instagramification of all social media.
That's why I joined and now I'm thoroughly enjoying it here.
First porn was pulled from the API. Next it will be pulled from the site.
Content is there to be monetized. If advertisers don’t like it, and the site’s share price is linked to advertisers….
It’s a rollercoaster that only goes straight down to hell. Reddit staff don’t care. They will all be rich and gone within 18 months.

But only in comparison to the good apps. If we never had the others we’d never know and Reddit might never have gotten big. Those apps drove a much higher rate of engagement because of well they were made. It’s like now I couldn’t even engage at the same rate if I tried. And I’m only talking about viewing posts, commenting, and voting. I can’t imagine how the changes are for mods.
No, it's objectively bad.
Yes, we would know. Because reddit itself used to look good before they destroyed the UI. Take a look at old.reddit.com to see. A lot of these apps were mostly trying to recapture that, but with more user customization.
As long as /u/UniDanX and the other shit-posting, karma-farming assholes, Bitcoin evangelists, thedonald right-wing pricks, left-wing vegan socialist fanatics stay off lemmy, I'm content.
I’ve learned that with some things… if a person doesn’t just get it, I cannot help them.
I've never used it, so I don't know how bad it actually is. I just feel like it you have to force it on your users, it can't be great.
