Pretty great episode. This director is really great at adding comedy into scenes like the fight scene. Also a lot of small character details like how Julie is terrified of Rudy and hides behind Zanoba while also headpatting him. Also I like the characterization of how the two beast girls seem to be reformed ex delinquents who are trying to attend school naturally and so initially rebuff Rudeus attempting to fight them.
There's a lot of people in the thread bringing attention to how can the school allow obvious confinement. But maybe it's just all the recent magic school anime like Seven Spellblades, Mashle, and even OG Harry Potter, but magical student going missing and the school being fine with it seems a very common occurrence.
I gotta say, regarding last episode, I'm still not ok with how slavery is handled in MT. I know the light novel explores the subject better than the anime did, but still. For Rudeus to actually buy a slave, when he initially grew up in a society where there is no slavery, and when keeping in mind that probably many of those orphans were orphaned during the Fitoa Incident, it leaves a very sour taste in my mouth.
My brother in Christ, Rudy literally kidnapped, bound and SA'd two little girls in this episode. Not once in the entire narrative has he ever been shown as an unambiguously good character, he has always shown varying (but non-zero) levels of degeneracy. It's just how his character has been written, he is not your conventional white knight hero.
To add to that: he's actually less shitty as a person in the new world than he was in Earth. And he doesn't even show the remorse that he was supposed to - he's still pissy at his old life's brothers for breaking his computer with a bat!
I hope you too will be able to see a stark difference between being a degenerate and being cool with enslaved children. I am not asking for Rudeus to kick down the door to the slavers market and declare that slavery is no more, but I do expect more than just an internal monologue to hand-wave away any moral conundrum.
Okay, so I am currently watching the first two episodes of this show and while it seems interesting, I have a difficult time looking past the pervertedness; it is making me cringe and not in a good way. Like a little is fine, boobs very funny, sure whatever. This on the other hand feels very wrong, maybe I am just a massive prude since I don’t see many people taking issue with this. Yes it is fiction, I know, but it is kind of dulling my enjoyment.
Is this going to become less of a thing later on? I saw people mentioning it would, yet I saw some things about SA so I’m not too hopeful.
If the first two episodes is a bit too much for you it's better to just drop it now. Sexuality is a constant theme in MT and it will happen throughout.
