Mother’s Custody In Danger After Officer Shot 11-Year-Old Son
A Sunflower County, Miss., woman could lose custody rights to her children after an Indianola police officer shot her 11-year-old son.
A Sunflower County, Miss., woman could lose custody rights to her children nearly a year after an Indianola police officer shot her then-11-year-old son, Aderrien Murry, in the chest at the family’s home in May 2023. In court filings, Sunflower County Prosecuting Attorney Gwendolyn Jimison cited the shooting while accusing Nakala Murry of neglecting her three children.
“To have to even think of losing her kids at this point over something that is not her fault is just unbelievable. It’s outlandish,” Nakala Murry’s attorney Carlos Moore told the Mississippi Free Press on Thursday.
I assumed she was losing custody as a result of the difficulties of caring for his medical needs as a single parent. But no, it's because they say she failed to protect her kids from her abuser. Yet when she called for help, what happened? It's the experience of most abused women that there is no help. And worse, that the systems designed to help do more harm. That's certainly the case here.
Plus putting the kid in foster care is liable to expose him to more abuse and neglect. We are in hell, truly.
Much like the 17 year old kid in CA who recently locked himself in a bathroom of a foster home and threatened to stab himself so the police busted down the door and shot him to death.
I seriously wonder what the hell goes through these people's minds as they purposely make situations worse in the name of 'protection.'
Love how they just casually mention that this abusive POS ex-husband still has parental rights. He beat her until she cried out for her son to call the police (imagine how desperate you must be, as a black American, to reach out to the police to help), when the cops showed up, the husband was gone, but the cop still came in guns drawn on her and her family. When her child (the one who was so brave by calling for help for his mother) followed the cops orders to come out, hands up, the cop shot him in the chest. Cop didn't get fired, he still works there. But now this poor woman, whose only mistake was to love the wrong man and trust the police to help, is being dragged through the mud, having her children held hostage, because she "let" herself be the victim of domestic abuse. That's seriously their claim.
On the same day that this woman was beaten bloody by her ex partner outside her home, the police shot her child. Now the same state that did nothing about this domestic abuse, that failed to hold the cop who shot a child accountable, is saying they don't trust her with children.
You just can't make this shit up, man.
When Capers arrived at the home, Moore said the police officer commanded everyone to put their hands up, and Aderrien Murry walked out with his hands up. The lawyer said Capers then shot the 11-year-old in the chest.
I guess if cops are threatened by acorns, then an 11-year old kid may as well have been the same as being threatened by a grizzly bear or a terrorist.
