Is that one of those smelly durian fruits?
1 0 ReplyThe spikes are too small, looks much more like a jackfruit.
17 0 ReplyNo. Definitely tastier. At least the fruit part. There is a different part that is more fleshy that is less tasty. It's used as a pulled pork substitute in vegan dishes.
7 1 ReplyJackfruit pulled pork is damn good.
8 0 ReplyMaybe I haven't found a good recipe yet. I've used canned jackfruit and it just tastes like heartburn and bile. The ripe stuff is good tho...

Controversial statement that jackfruit is tastier than durian :D. I guess I haven’t found the good tasting part of jackfruit yet.
5 1 ReplyIf you have not had banana and jackfruit Turon you are sadly deprived.
3 0 ReplyThanks! Thats the kind of suggestion I was looking for. I will try that!

Are you eating ripe or young jackfruit? Young jackfruit is what's often used as a meat substitute, ripe jackfruit is sweet and has a unique flavor.
2 0 ReplyI love both jackfruit and durian, but they are very different flavours.

2 0 ReplyYea and there are several varieties too, some don't get goopy at all, they stay firm. I personally love the goopies though

Doesn't durian smell like shit but taste great? Or is that just propaganda to fool tourists into trying it? (I haven't had the pleasure...)
2 0 ReplyIn my experience it both smells and tastes like shit
2 0 ReplyGood to know!

It does smell a little funny but the taste and texture makes up for it. Especially as part of this desert (durian pulut) that comes with sticky rice and a kind of syrup.
2 0 ReplyTastes amazingly complex. Can be overwhelming, but if you like things like wine, whiskey, cheese, and chutneys, you'll love it.
It tastes like some kind cheesy fruity onion chutney. Sweet and rich.

No, durians have big spikes. Between the spikes and the smell, durians shout not to be eaten, but do we listen?
