Prediction: they won't remove the geoblocking because Sony won't commit to not requiring the PSN login sometime in the future. All sony said is that their may 30th plans were not moving forward. That's corporate weasel speak "for now".
Having seen this play out at a smaller scale before, there is 100% an ego driven calculus at play here, because there are probably 200 different overpaid executives who supported the PSN bait and switch as a "strategic initiative" to "drive platform engagement" for "revenue expansion roadmaps" who would look like they've accomplished nothing at all if this was truly dead. It's not like they can just make a good game which produces stable long term cashflow. That's so 2012. Now we need "metrics," and "telemetry," and "app installs."
If there's one thing I've learned in my career it's that you will never convince anyone wearing a suit that they are wrong. The best you can hope for is to make them think they came up with an even better idea on their own.
They don't even need to be the suit, they just need to work with the suit.
My boss is the director of our department, his boss is the VP of the department, and his boss is the CEO. My VP is pretty cool, but to get anything done, I need to convince the director in terms that make him look good to the VP, and also make the VP look good to the CEO. My boss is good at coming up with jargon, but sometimes I need to plant the seeds of that jargon to get things rolling.
If my VP or director get replaced, I'll probably leave. I know what works on them, and I honestly don't have the energy to learn a whole new way of buttering someone up.
Yea, I have zero hope that Sony has dropped this completely. They will most likely wait for the attention to die down and push it through, that's just how these shit companies work. Even their wording is ambiguous enough to mean that.
You heard him game companies. Never bother fixing a mistake, because people who live to complain will just continue to complain, and everyone else won’t care.
yes, and I'm so sick of this attitude. this is not a messed up launch that you fix with updates. this was a business decision. a deliberate one. this wasn't a bug, it wasn't a mistake, and it wasn't a misunderstanding. this was a test.
yes. that's the message. don't fix your transgressions after you realize you couldn't get away with it. don't do it in the first place. and don't do it next time. cause there will be a next time.
no brownie points if you steal a wallet and you graciously give it back when you get caught. that's not "fixing your mistake".
That’s an interesting phrase, “getting account linking took a Herculean effort”, so they had ulterior motives in what they were doing? Thats a bad look.
Edit
Arrowhead knew exactly what they were doing with the lack of communication and with everything else they’ve done. This was planned.
It was part of their contract, of course they are going to want the company they gave funding to make their game hold up their end of the bargain. Or are you suggesting it’s okay for people to just say fuck contracts and do what they want? That can’t be your point here is it?
So why would they go out of their way to undo/reverse something they agreed upon to do in the first place. They saw dollar bills after Sony let them pause it and have now essentially admitted it. And not surprisingly, people are coming out in droves to defend them.
This is going to backfire on arrowhead spectacularly in the future. It’ll take time, but they’ve fucked up royally in the end here.
This is basically no different than what CDPR did, but this is a Sony funded game so they can’t just pull the game.
It was part of their contract from day 1, they did as little as possible to deal with it from their end when their servers went down and Sony let them pause it.
The splash screen should have provided more details about the mandatory requirements, they knew what they were doing by being vague and not upfront about anything.
The dude may have wonderful motives of not wanting the account linking and decides on his own against it to make the game more available. However he also knew it is not going to fly, so its not very difficult to imagine what will happen. I don't see this guy being on the right side here.
Because people hate discussion and anyone who points out their own lack of education is somehow a shill and defending a corporation.
Which is hilarious since every single one is defending another corp, while also not admitting they couldn’t read multiple warnings before buying the game.
In other words, people’s feelings were hurt by the truth, and they are taking it out on me. I don’t give two shits about downvotes, and it’s incredibly amusing all the shit people come up with when pointed out.
IDK, I read this more as they intentionally sabotaged Sony's bullshit up front hoping for an eventual user revolt. I think he knows that this kind of bullshit would potentially overshadow the game itself and turn a lot of people off from what is legitimately a great game.
So it sounds like you’re defending a company for taking money and agreeing to contract obligations and then completely turning around and using the public to fight their battle? Instead of doing it the right way and either not agreeing to them or coming to other terms?
Thats what you’re doing here? Defending one corporations greed while decrying another? You’re a hypocrite lmfao.
