Eye icon - what does it do?

What does this icon do? It appears on scroll sometimes. Tapping it does nothing.

Hides read posts
- So it's just an indicator that the "hide read posts" feature is enabled? It's incredibly annoying, needs a toggle to disable. Off to Github.
  
  Yea we are trying to figure out what to do with it… it’s supposed to hide any read posts but i think it’s pretty confusing
  
  Yeah and if you hit the button it will hide posts you just read. If you disable hide read posts it disables the button too. But I do agree splitting the setting into two would be smart. He did make it smaller last update and it hides when your scrolling but I get not liking it.
In addition to hiding read posts', I wish it scrolled back to the top.
