I don't want to be pedantic but it's "Steller's Jay".

The bird is named after the German naturalist Georg Wilhelm Steller, the first European to record them, in 1741. source

I love these birds. They’re very smart, but such assholes! They have learned to mimic a hawk’s call to scare off other little birds, and then raid their nests.
I thought you were in Sechelt, BC!

... though the "ranch" doesn't make much sense there.
