A couple months ago, I shamelessly posted a darksynth recommendation guide someone on reddit made and a lot of people here on Lemmy seemed to like it. Well, the creator of that guide just posted a new version so I'm shamelessly sharing it here again.

CYBER CRASH 2000 (1987)

Despite a limited run at the time of release, Pak Nam-Gyu’s 1987 tech-noir classic CYBER CRASH 2000 has gained a small cult following among 20th century completionists. Equally praised for its ominous predictions and panned for its overuse of cyberpunk clichés, the film dealt with complex themes for its time including body modifications and transhumanism. The film soundtrack, credited to unknown producer Lee Hae-Dong, garners similar criticism, being both a schlocky analog product of its time and a tense atmospheric peek into the future. Restored from the original master tapes, the soundtrack is available here in full for the first time.

I dig these albums that provide storylines, even though they typically don't stand alone from just the songs. Even better if they're written by non-native English speakers.

Darksynth is a sub-genre of Synthwave. And within darksynth, there's a sub-sub-genre for cyberpunk synth music. So if synth music feels cyberpunk to you, these recommendations are a good starting point.

This song and video are perfectly cyberpunk, I've always enjoyed it. I really liked the first couple songs from Scandroid (Datastream and Salvation Code) but by the time he made an entire album he leaned too far into the 80s aesthetic and love songs for my taste so I stopped listening. It's a shame too, it's rare for a band to create intentionally cyberpunk songs, rather than just music that may give listeners a cyberpunk "feel".

I know there probably aren't too many metalheads here, and music posts in general never do all that well on this community, but I'm going to post this anyway!

Burton C Bell had been the lead singer of Fear Factory for 30 years when he quit the band in 2020. This is his first song as a solo artist since the split. It's more industrial than Fear Factory was but the video and lyrics are definitely cyberpunk in my opinion. I hope he releases an entire album in this style.

In Cyberpunk 2077, Keanu Reeve's character Johnny Silverhand was the lead singer of a rock band called Samurai. So CD Projekt Red needed some Samurai songs to include in the game.

They hired the punk band Refused to write some songs as Samurai. Chippin' In is one of those songs. Here are the rest.

Music to listen to to while surfing cyberspace.

In 1993, Billy Idol discovered the cyberpunk genre. He became so enthralled by it that he named his next album Cyberpunk. The album itself isn't very good, but the music video for Shock To The System is definitely cyberpunk.

For what it's worth, the only songs on the album that I'd recommend listening to are Shock To The System and Neuromancer. You can skip the rest of the album.

Personally, I think the song is kinda mediocre but the music video is extremely cyberpunk.
