The surge in hydroelectric dams is driving massive biodiversity loss
  • This always confuses me as to why we are still using energy usage busywork like AI and blockchain right now. Even if we get 100% renewable we still need to be efficient to reduce impact on our world, and put that into other important things. And we are definitely not in a position to be wasting away energy right now.

  • Windows 11 just isn't enticing Windows 10 users to upgrade, and its market share is actually falling
  • Not the original poster, but my experience was fairly smooth. I had minor issues with wifi drivers, and I got a new GPU that had some driver issues because it was pretty recently released (I guess the open source drivers didn’t have time to be updated?). In terms of actual gaming, basically no issues. I mainly use steam and proton has been bliss, I’ve bought multiple games without even checking compatibility, and it just works. To my knowledge there is only one old game where the multiplayer doesn’t work, but everything else has been seamless. Mint cinnamon is what I’m currently running.

  • Rich people aren’t just hoarding money in a bank like Scruge Mcduck, unless they’re not very smart. If most of their money was tied into bank bonds that didn’t out perform inflation, then it’s bad for them. But if it’s tied to business stock or ownership, then those stocks are now worth more money for one to be willing to give up that stock. Inflation benefits some types and hurts others.

  • political violence works and is good sometimes actually
  • It’s unfortunate but in a lot of cases it’s the only thing that will work. Peaceful protest can help when protesting against a group that could be viewed as rational, if not, most people won’t just lie down if the conditions they are protesting don’t improve, and more drastic action becomes one of the few options left.

  • China demands Israel halt military operations in Rafah
  • There is little argument other than whataboutism and ‘I have a black friend’ here. I am aware it’s not a popular view on lemmy.ml, but these multiple things can be true. Western countries can totally be anti Chinese, other Muslim countries can totally be racist to other Muslim’s of the ‘wrong race’ just as much as a Christian. It does not change what is occurring in the xinjiang region. An individual can assess the actions and history of an organization without being themselves group into another organization they may or may not belong or support.

  • Bruh, they don’t need zionists when they can, themselves, be super xenophobic by themselves. Their treatment of Uyghurs does not inspire confidence that any actions made won’t be in benevolence to the suppressed.

  • I think teeth is also getting federal coverage. I believe they are slow rolling it out over this year. I heard about one can apply to get earlier coverage for lower/no incomes, if you lose your benefits.
