Curiosity of a non-vegan

Hello folks! First, I’d like to clarify that, even as a bloodmouth, I fully understand why some people have moral objections to eating meat. I am simply here to ask about it, as someone who is not a vegan.

So I suppose I have a few questions for anyone who wants to answer them, 100% as your own opinions and feelings about the topic.

Why do you make the conscious decision to not eat meat/animal products? Do you have negative feelings towards those who raise their own animals for food, such as those who raise chickens for eggs or cattle for milk, and otherwise treat the animals ethically? Are there other reasons for not eating meat that I’m not considering? When did you choose to switch to a vegan lifestyle, what (if any) was the “catalyst”? What are some challenges that you have dealt with when it comes to this lifestyle? Why do you believe there is a continued stigma around veganism in many physical/internet communities?

I understand that as someone who isn’t vegan, this is not my space, and I am trying to be as respectful as possible while here. If I have said anything objectionable within my questions or otherwise, please let me know so I can avoid making the mistake in the future.

EDIT: Holy crap, thank you all for the responses! I appreciate y’all for taking the time out of your day to respond and share your knowledge. I’m going to go watch Dominion within the next few days since some of you mentioned that.

What things do you refuse to pirate?
  • I’m not sure how to describe it, so I’ll just give an example. There’s a completely free online game called corru.observer, where all music is available to listen to on soundcloud, where the only support the devs have is to support on patreon/kofi/i don’t remember, or to buy the music on bandcamp.

I love the game, i love the music, and so I supported the game by buying the music.

  • What do you think about the Gemini protocol?
  • Well, firefox used to have support for gopher, but maintaining it was too much work and support was removed in firefox 4.0. Even now, with it gopher and gemini being the most popular they’ve ever been, neither of them have built-in support from any major web browser.

Also, it’s not that the creators don’t want people using it, that’s not what I meant. It’s just that they didn’t expect the level of adoption they currently have.

  • What do you think about the Gemini protocol?
  • because the point is not broad adoption, the point is not what features it supports, the point is the features that it doesn’t. It can’t track you, it can’t advertise to you (effectively), it’s meant to replicate that pre-corporate-enshittification feeling the WWW once had. The creators never imagined it would get as big as it even currently is.

    How should I get started?

Hello y’all! I’ve always been interested in computers and programming for as long as i can remember, but recently i’ve decided to try to get into some of the deeper stuff behind that, into the wonderful world of electronics. Where should I start? What courses or books or youtube series should I consume? What are some high-quality forums, communities, blogs, etc. to learn from?

    E-book readers

Hello everyone! For a while i’ve been using Okular, but I feel like the UI is a bit crowded and it's difficult to change the appearance of the book itself. Are there any minimalist/simple epub readers for Linux (perhaps something akin to Apple’s “Books” app?)
