Discussion: impact of AI on (your) work
  • I work in university admissions and the programs require a motivation letter. While absolutely hating writing Cover letters or motivations myself, I do see the advantages for admission (although I absolutely hate the system).

Mainly it is a great way to give applicants with weaker grades a shot. And a good motivation letter where I get a feeling for who they are will put them almost always automatically higher in my recommendations. However, I am so sick of the same ChatGPT motivation. And it is always the same. Oh you honed your ability to do this? Your drawn because of that? I have read your letter 50 times before. And I don’t mean the contents. Let’s be real, most do not have an inspiring story about why they want to study, and that is okay, the program sounding good is a perfectly valid reason. But show me who you are (or what you want me to think who you are). I really developed an adverse reaction to these AI letters. I hate them because I know I’m reading a robots “thoughts”. By all means use the tools available to polish but don’t polish out your personality.

This will lead to motivation letters being abolished. And while for most people that’s great and a CV should speak for itself it will remove chances to get into a prestigious program for people who are not perfect or had the luck to grow up rich.

  • December Projects
  • Oooh this is so cute! That’s going to be such a nice Christmas present!

How exciting! I’m sure it’s a great way to make some Memories for you and your first born. How far along are you?

The thing about socks is that 75% of the way I hate making them, but that last quarter is satisfying and I also think it’s not that bad, so I make another one. And then the circle begins again…

    December Projects

What are you currently working on? Any Christmas presents for someone else or yourself? Or are you planning your next projects?

Currently I’m working on 4 projects (all for myself):

    1. The “Lattice Love Beanie” by hear hook home with a gorgeous yarn I found at a yarn fair. It’s so soft and I love how it works up. I’m just afraid that I don’t have enough yarn.

    2. The Rancher Shawl by TL Yarncrafts. Also with yarn I you at a fair, and I’m finally making some progress on it. It’s probably going to be the project I’ll take with me to entertain me during Christmas travels.

    3. Moroccan Tea Blanket. I love the shawls, and I now I now started this blanket. It’s probably going to be my 2024 project.

    4. Socks. I am so over knitting this pair of socks. I want to be a sock knitter, but I’m not. Working 9 months now on this pair, and my 2nd sock is about 1/4 done…

[Daily thread] How are you doing today? 08-11-2023
  • Not too good. Sitting at my desk at work with no daylight for the next 6 more hours, I’m exhausted from extremely high blood sugars from the last 18 hours.

Also today marks 4 years since the last time I spoke to my grandmother, whom I’m missing dearly. There’s so many things I’d like to talk with her about and I miss the family I lost with her death. I wish I could turn back time and keep my promise to call her back within 2 days. She got admitted to hospital very suddenly 5 days after her birthday and died a few days later. I guess I’ll see if I can sit down at the library and write her a letter later.

  • Where to watch Discovery in Sweden

Pretty much as the title says. I want to watch Discovery, but I just cannot find any streaming services that offer it. It’s supposed to be on Netflix, but it’s not. Tried skyshowtime and tele2 who also don’t have it.

I find everything else on these, from series to movies, except for discovery. Any tips (except for sailing)?

Guten Morgen!

  • Yeah, the comments are bad, I clicked on the link out of curiosity. I think I got my weekly dose of online slurs for the week.

Also an interesting “safe space”. A “safe space” to be unhinged in which names you call others that don’t agree with you and been cheered on for doing so.

  • Klassische Foren

  • im just an unemployed seagull rule
  • I only got robbed once in my life.

First day of vacation, the sun is shining and I’m walking down a street in Porto. Bakeries are advertising their freshly baked goods. Happily I enter one, see above sign, chuckle and proceed to buy one of these delicious looking pastries. I leave the bakery, in my hands is a pastel de nata. Tasty. With a big smile I continue my walk down the street. I turn my head and admire some flowers. Then it hits me. Quite literally. Something hit me in my face, and the bag of pastries is pulled out of my hands. I stand there, baffled. The people around me stare at me. I look at my hands, still trying to process what happened. The dude next to me stares at me, I look at him, looking for my pastry. He points at a seagull. There I see it: a freaking seagull flying away with my pastry. It dived down, mid flight and stole the bag I held in my hands. The hit in my face was its wing. I got robbed by a seagull.
