(Resolved) What was the name of a project to give web users control over who can access their personal information?

It was started by one of the grandfathers of computing/the web/the internet, but I'll be damned if I can remember what it was called and my DuckDuckGo-Foo is failing me today.

What's the point of living?
  • Hi OP. AskLemmy is a community for thought-provoking questions. There are other communities for questions asking for support.

You could reword your question to make it comply with the rules. e.g. "Why does society so strongly link happiness with employment and relationships?"

Lemmyns of Lemmy who have received CPR, what was experience like for you? What do you remember?

I had to help give CPR to someone recently, and their eyes were partly open. Got me wondering whether they were partly conscious while I was doing compressions.

Israel told Gazans in Rafah to move towards Al-Mawasi because it was a humanitarian area, but several of those who did say the aid they were promised has not arrived.

    Post removal on AskLemmy@lemmy.world

I thought I'd give a quick update on the efforts to combat the spam wave.

Clearly someone wants to make Lemmy a less appealing place to be. It's a deliberate attempt to spoil the good thing that we have going here. l'll leave it up to you to contemplate the motives and timing of this attack on the fediverse.

So what are the Mods doing, and what can you do to help?

The most obvious one is that we are deleting the spam as soon as it is seen. We are checking more often, but as volunteers we can't be on Lemmy 24/7. We also have some automated checking going on. This is working fairly well, but occasionally some legitimate posts are being removed. These get restored eventually, but sometimes it can take a while for this to be actioned. If this happens to you, please be patient.

As users, we can help out by reporting spam posts and by posting quality content. Contributing to our community is the best way to make sure that it remains a safe, interesting and thought-provoking place.

People of the Fediverse, what inspires you?

I'm talking about the things that make you really excited.

AskLemmy @ Lemmy.world is accepting posts again!

We've implemented some basic controls to hopefully catch CSAM material earlier. As with any such control, occasionally there might be false positives. Unfortunately that's the price we pay....

    Now recruiting mods.

We are currently looking for mods to help moderate Ask Lemmy on lemmy.world.

AskLemmy is the fourth largest community on lemmy.world and has an active member community. Mods will need to be able to do a quick check one or more times a day, most days of the week. Checks typically only take a minute or two, although on occasions they may take longer.

Please DM me or reach out on Matrix if interested. @bluetreefrog:matrix.org

    Low effort posts

Ask Lemmy is a place to ask thought provoking questions. The mods have been lenient with some of the recent posts on the basis that they must provoke thought for some people, but after seeing two posts essentially saying "what do you think of my stick?", I believe we can raise the bar a bit on what kind of thoughts we want to provoke here.

No more low effort posts please.
