This week in KDE: Plasma 6.1 cleanups
  • This is indeed a bug and can reproduce on Arch 6.1.0. Please check if is has been reported at https://bugs.kde.org, and, if it hasn't, please report it.

    Edite: Submitted - https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=489025

  • another feature forced really hard on users, with Konsole this time: the color preview
  • Love the colour preview. Love the image preview. Was going to say "I can see why some people would want to disable it", but then could not think of any reasons, so I can't. That said, OP can go to

Settings > Manage Profiles > [Their profile] > Edit > Mouse > Miscellaneous

and uncheck Preview Colour on Hover.

    "Problem" solved.

  • Plasma 6.1 is here!
  • Someone creates a username/password in System Settings and then activates the server on the remote computer. Then they need to approve you the first time you try to log in from your personal computer... I'm not sure this answers your question.

  • Plasma 6.1 is here!
  • It works really well with KRDC too. Proof.

  • Are you ready? Plasma 6.1 drops tomorrow at 10am UTC.
  • All the pieces fit together, you know, and show a yet unpublished screenshot with Plasma's new looks.

  • Come visit us at OpenExpo Europe happening in Madrid today and learn about Plasma and KDE apps.
  • It is. Includes a a bug-inducing NVIDIA GPU, unfortunately. For the rest of it, it is quite good with Plasma 6.

  • This sddm bug is driving me insane
  • Has this been reported? If not, please report it:

    https://bugs.kde.org

If it has, maybe bump it with your video? It is clear indicator as to what is wrong.

    Thanks you for your cooperation!

  • omg KDE if it ain't broken, fix it until it is?
  • The risk is low. Your email address is not visible by the general public. A spammer would have to go through a manual registration process to see it. Sounds like a lot of work for a small niche number of email addresses.

Either way, when in doubt, do as suggested: use your spam-catching email address.

  • omg KDE if it ain't broken, fix it until it is?
  • Great! My advice is you politely comment on it with your own experience or your insight into what the correct behaviour should be. This will not only give devs a measure of the importance of this bug, but will also keep you in the loop of the process of its resolution.

  • omg KDE if it ain't broken, fix it until it is?
  • If you think you have found a bug, please report it at https://bugs.kde.org. This is will help get it solved as opposed to every other course of action.

  • Your Data Is Yours with #LabPlot.
  • a) Not an ad

    b) LabPlot is KDE's data visualization and analysis app.

  • You heard #Adobe. Deep down you knew this was coming. Now all your art are belong to them. Time to move on to better things...
  • there’s not really a substitute for After Effects yet,

Have you tried Natron? This software still needs some serious love, but maybe you can appreciate its potential as tool for people used to AE.

  • You heard #Adobe. Deep down you knew this was coming. Now all your art are belong to them. Time to move on to better things...
  • I agree. That said, users coming from proprietary tools may be gracious enough to meet the volunteers building free software at least half way.

  • You heard #Adobe. Deep down you knew this was coming. Now all your art are belong to them. Time to move on to better things...
  • There are abrasive people everywhere and everyone has an opinion. In a community without a top-down hierarchical structure, every Tom, Dick and Henrietta thinks they know what's best for the project and will tell you so. Don't take it personally, remember everybody wants what is best, and, if you believe in your proposal, persevere. There is someone who agrees with you.

  • You heard #Adobe. Deep down you knew this was coming. Now all your art are belong to them. Time to move on to better things...
  • This is PR bullshit. They have not changed their license one iota from what it was 2 days ago and, ultimately, the license is what goes. They have not corrected course. All they have done is asked users to trust them in a blog post. The problem with that is that blog posts are not legally binding and, in a field full of nasty, predatory and untrustworthy firms, Adobe is one of the nastiest, most predatory and least trustworthy . You do with that what you will.

  • You heard #Adobe. Deep down you knew this was coming. Now all your art are belong to them. Time to move on to better things...
  • Even if you lack knowledge regarding development, advice from professional designers and artists is always appreciated. I think it would be helpful if you picked a project with receptive developers and offered them your insight.

  • You heard #Adobe. Deep down you knew this was coming. Now all your art are belong to them. Time to move on to better things...
  • Don't take this the wrong way. While I appreciate the tact with which you have expressed your criticisms, but you may find that your objections all boil down to "I am used to a certain set of tools and now I have to change. The new tools do things differently and I am confused and it is messing with my productivity", that is, the problem is not entirely with the new software, but with you, your workflow and your muscle memory.

  • You heard #Adobe. Deep down you knew this was coming. Now all your art are belong to them. Time to move on to better things...
  • It is not perfect, of course! It also does not have the resources of Blender. Then again, both pieces of software are quite different and have different uses.

  • You heard #Adobe. Deep down you knew this was coming. Now all your art are belong to them. Time to move on to better things...
  • Are you implying that Adobe products are not "300% better"??!??! Outrageous.

    GCompris: recognising dice pattern

    cross-posted from: https://lemmy.kde.social/post/1066727

    > Using dices in elementary school to play mathematical games allows to train logic and strategy. Before that, dice patterns need to be learned. "Number with dice" helps pupils in preschool to quickly count the dots present on a dice and offers practice to train dice patterns recognition, preparing children for the elementary school.

WARNING: Global themes and widgets created by 3rd party developers for Plasma can and will run arbitrary code. You are encouraged to exercise extreme caution when using these products.

A user has had a bad experience installing a global theme on Plasma and lost personal data.

Global themes do not only change the look of Plasma, but also the behavior. To do this they run code, and this code can be faulty, as in the case mentioned above. The same goes for widgets and plasmoids.

We are calling on the community to help us locate and quarantine defective software by using the "Report" buttons available on each item in the KDE Store.

Please see this linked image to locate them.

Meanwhile, KDE is taking measures to properly warn users before each download and we are also putting in place ways of auditing and curating what is uploaded to the KDE store.

Nevertheless, this will take time and resources. We recommend all users to be careful when installing and running software not provided directly by KDE or your distros.

And remember to report any faulty products you find!

A PSA from KDE: Plasma 6.0 bugs

.0 versions can contain bugs not found in the pre-launch versions. You can help us get them removed by reporting them. And look out for updates to Plasma, as they will come with many fixes over the next few weeks!

As for the themes and widgets created by third parties, we have already publicly advised developers to port their stuff. We have two pages available to guide them, one for themes, one for widgets.

If you, the user, discover your favourite theme or widget is failing, please look for it in the KDE Store and notify the author, as KDE has no control or leverage over third party developers.

    Thank you
