Germany launches 11th-hour bid to avert trade war with China
  • The Germans have been dragging their feet on electrification

Not true, VW, Audi, BMW and Mercedes all have excellent electric cars, that are even better than Tesla now. If they aren't good enough, maybe you need a Porsche.
They are also way better than Chinese cars in general especially BYD. It's only when compared on price to subsidized Chinese cars they have difficulty competing.
The country that's behind on Electric is Japan, yet Toyota remains the #1 car manufacturer in the world.

they can’t afford a trade war with China

Generally everybody loses in a trade war. But if China subsidizes EV production, that needs to stop if they want to be part of an open market.

  • Tim Cook is “not 100 percent” sure Apple can stop AI hallucinations
  • It's kind of funny how AI has the exact same problems some humans have.
I always thought AI wouldn't have that kind of problems, because they would be carefully fed accurate information.
Instead they are taught from things like Facebook and the thing formerly known as Twitter.
What an idiotic timeline we are in. LOL

  • Germany launches 11th-hour bid to avert trade war with China
  • Yes VW, Audi, BMW, Mercedes are all definitely garbage. /s
Absolutely the companies that make some of the best cars in the world, should make better cars. What a moronic comment!

They are actually very attractive offerings too, I recently tried a BMW eDrive i4-40, it's an absolutely amazing car. And VW has some pretty attractive prices IMO.

  • Bernie Sanders calls vote to subpoena Novo Nordisk U.S. head over Ozempic, Wegovy prices
  • I don't believe it's actually $90 anywhere, that must be because of some sort of subsidy.
In Denmark where Novo resides, the price is $200+ for the lowest dose. And Denmark allows parallel import if it can be bought cheaper elsewhere.

USA has a very different market, with extreme penalties in case something goes wrong, that mandates higher self insurance, and sales channels that are almost built for abuse by almost everybody. I seriously doubt Novo makes 6 times more on Wegovy than they do elsewhere. The problem is in the American system.

That said, I agree with Bernie Sanders that there's a problem that needs to be fixed.

EDIT: $200 is for 4 doses enough for 4 weeks.
I bet the insane prices in USA, are mostly due to insurance companies and whole-sellers exploiting the lack of structure and regulation in the US system. Novo cannot take more that those are willing to pay, and if insurance chooses not to cover Wegovy, Novo sells nothing through that company. Insurance companies are in control more than anybody in USA.

  • Bernie Sanders calls vote to subpoena Novo Nordisk U.S. head over Ozempic, Wegovy prices
  • It's very fair, Wegovy is more expensive in USA, because Americans are fatter.

    Edit:
Sorry, my mistake. It's of course because USA has the best healthcare system in the world.
Except for the people who need it of course.

  • America’s problem is massive inequality – not ‘woke’ educated elites
  • Nononono The problem is definitely woke elitists, emigrants, LGBTQ, colored people, Jews, poor people, foreigners, and of course liberals. They are not heartland America.
The good guys are money grabbing corrupt criminals and criminal politicians, Christian fanatics, Totalitarians, Nazis and Russians.
Because how isn't that obvious??? At least that seems true to about half of America!!!

  • Elon Musk threatens to ban Apple devices from his companies over OpenAI partnership
  • This doesn't specify X, so it's probably Tesla too, except I seriously doubt this threat is serious, because banning iPhone integration from Tesla, would probably hurt Tesla sales, and hurt Tesla and Musk 1000 times more than Apple.

  • Escalation management and Biden’s strategy for Ukraine
  • People are bombarded with bad stories about migrants, but also about the government.

Same mechanisms that caused Brexit, and just like Brexit the extreme right won't benefit anybody, their policies are moronic at best or decidedly evil.
I wonder why there isn't a good counter to these propaganda lies?

  • Escalation management and Biden’s strategy for Ukraine
  • Yes it's really bad in both France and Germany, I don't quite get why the extreme right is so popular? Some say economy, but I don't see any evidence that the extreme right should be good for economy, and the election also caused the Euro to drop, so finances certainly don't believe it either.
Maybe it's emigration? but don't most European countries already have pretty strict regulation to prevent emigration?
Luckily there is no support on either right or left side for Russia here (Denmark), all parties support Ukraine. So it's very hard to understand how things are so bad in many other countries?

  • Escalation management and Biden’s strategy for Ukraine
  • If this is true, that USA is making a balancing act to prevent either side from winning, to eventually force peace talks, that’s extremely infuriating IMO. Russia 100% needs to lose outright, hat’s the best way to prevent them from trying again, but more than that, it’s the only acceptable outcome morally. The bully must not be allowed to benefit from bullying.

As he says, things are going well for Ukraine ATM, and I am pretty certain that no European guvernement share in the claimed American policy. But are actually trying to help Ukraine win.

  • Apple blocks PC emulator from being available in iOS App Store and third-party app stores
  • This is generally true, but no more than what you do with an iPhone to Apple. Except with the iPhone Apple decides how much, where on Android you can prevent giving data to Google to the degree you wish.
There is no doubt Android phones have more freedom than iPhone. It's not even reasonably debatable.

  • Apple blocks PC emulator from being available in iOS App Store and third-party app stores
  • I was wondering why you were downvoted, until I saw the name of the sub.
Apple users are definitely in a cage, but apparently they won't even acknowledge it.
I'm not saying the phones aren't good otherwise, but using Apple is an obvious sacrifice of digital freedom.

Russia's Kharkiv offensive – what is the plan?

    >Russia has launched an offensive into the Kharkiv region, and it has created a lot of alarmist news reports. In reality it is difficult to see what Russia's plan is, and it is not self-evident that it is a smart use of resources. In this video I discuss whether we might be seeing a return to the fragmented command structures that Russia had in the beginning of the war.

4 months durability for an $800 phone!

My old $200 Motorola G9 Power phone lasted almost 4 years with only very minor scratches. Obviously in that period I have dropped it a few times getting out of the car, where the phone sometimes work itself out of my pant pocket while I drive, and then it slips out when I get out of the car. But no problem on my previous phones, despite the Moto had cheap Panda glass front.

Then I bought my $800 glass back Xiaomi 13T Pro in January, and I loved the phone for the camera and good specs. But alas after only 4 months, and single drop of just 30 cm while sitting on the porch, the glass back immediately cracked! The back now looks like an ugly mess, and the high water resistance is very likely gone too.

For sure the last time I buy a phone with a glass back!!!

I wonder why glass back is so popular, and I curse the media for reviewing the Samsung Galaxy S2 as "feeling a bit cheap", because the back was synthetic, and drop tests showed it was 10 times as durable as the iPhone with its glass back.

Samsung did it right in the beginning, glass backs are a curse.

PS: I don't use condoms for my phones, if they need that for daily use, it's an obvious design flaw!!!

The glass back is supposedly there to give a premium feel to the phone. But because it's fragile, people have to use a cover, but with the cover, the premium feel of a glass back is gone anyways? How is glass back not a design flaw?

    EDIT FOR CLARIFICATION:

I am not clumsy, that's why I believe the phone should be able to last without cover. This was the first time the phone slid out of my packet, and I've NEVER dropped it out of my hands. One 30 cm slip and it's broken. Where for instance my Moto had maybe 4-6 in all over the years, and remained unscathed, apart from some tiny scratches. The sliding out of pocket does occur maybe a couple of times per year, but it's a low drop, and the phone should absolutely be able to handle that tiny drop, as it's an item for everyday use. I've also never had problems with scratches on my screen on any phone, which is the reason people use screen protectors I guess, which I don't either, because they are ugly, for instance they create a tiny ring around the camera, and they feel awful IMO, my phone came with it, and it took exactly 10 seconds for me to decide to remove it, because I could feel the edge of the screen protector when using the phone. But please stop with the dropping my phone regularly comments! Just because I dropped my Moto a few times (slid out of pocket) over almost 4 years! Always from low height, which it should be able to handle a few times.

Why do Google searches not give maps links anymore?

It used to be very convenient that when searching for something that had a geographic location, Google searches used to show a small map which linked to Google maps when pressed. Now all I get i a tiny useless map, that doesn't have any of the feature of Google maps, and often I don't even get that. Anyone know why that is? And if there is a fix? I use Firefox, but I'm guessing it's independent of browser, unless Google is up to their shenanigans again. I've added Google maps as search option, which luckily is dead easy in Firefox to do. At the same time I added Open Street Map, to minimize Google map use to maybe show them they are losing traffic.

    EDIT:

I think this is the reason as u/garrett@lemm.ee writes:
