Poignant post on the state of things
  • That ratio seems off? 49 out of 50 people wished they could have children? I highly doubt that. If going by your logic you say that 1/10th of 1/5th of folks are child free not by choice. Say out of 50 people that math equals 1 person per 50 folks regret not being able to have kids.

  • DUSK HD - Official Teaser Trailer
  • Great game, but not sure it needs an HD remake.

  • AI could lead to better comoression algorithms!

Is compression equivalent to general intelligence? DeepMind digs up more potential clues.

AI language models can exceed PNG and FLAC in lossless compression, says study

This would lead to some very large cost savings if AI could compress video/audio even better than current compression algorithms. Data borders unite!

  • Why there aren't ad blocking apps on Google Play
  • There is no need for an actual installed adblocker. You can simply change system wide DNS to black ads. You can really use any DNS you choose, but I'd suggest mullvads DNS.

Look for "private DNS" on your phone, or switch it on your browser if on desktop.

  • Every single rising post on Reddit is crypto spam
  • Wow really? How the hell are they staying afloat?

  • How do people find good information on the internet these days?
  • I like OpenCritic for game reviews now. It's a site that aggregates a lot of reviews into one site. If not there I always trust steam reviews of games.

  • Anyone else feel that Lemmy just *isn't* addictive?
  • Y'all need to start sorting by top posts the past 6 hours. Changed Lemmy for me. Right now the algorithm for hot and active is too stale.

  • Sync for Lemmy is now available for everyone
  • Okay so say I believe you. Why do you think a large majority of third party devs shuttered their projects they worked on for so long if it was just as easy as adding a subscription fee? Why didn't more of them do it? I know of one that actually implemented a subscription. If folks were actually doing much less than 1000 API calls daily then you'd think most devs would have gone that way right?

Anyone know if Lemmy logs IP?

For instance say I post a guide on how to do something related to piracy...should I be concerned that my IP is being logged? I understand if it is logged it is most likely saved on the instance server I'm posting on. What I'm asking is if I should be constantly using a VPN while browsing or posting on instances?

YSK That if you delete your lemmy account, your comments/posts made on other instances will remain there forever.

So say I make an account on lemmy.world and post a bunch of stupid comments around other instances then decide to delete my account because I'm ashamed of them. After I delete my account, a copy of all those comments I made on other instances remain on those instances as a "shadow copy." There isn't any way to actually delete them all. The copies of the comments/posts on your home instance will be deleted

tldr: Don't say stupid shit on other instances you'll regret later! They never leave that instance!

Why YSK: so you can think carefully about what to comment and post.
