Easiest way to tell the difference between bot and person
  • I'm sorry to say I tried this and it worked.

I also got a person to leave by writing VY Canis Majoris. I'm not sure how they interpreted that.

  • They said the 19th!
  • Strangely, I got my letter saying my "postal vote forms will arrive soon" two days after I received the postal vote forms. I got confused for a moment there!

  • Props to Ranty, too.

  • Most of the big names in the flerf community are grifters, for sure. But many of the people who follow them are genuine believers. I have a relative who's a die-hard flerfer.

Sheeps and Neeps was a small time flerfer who literally died because his conspiracy theory beliefs about cancer treatment, and there was that guy who went up in a rocket and came down in pieces. So some of them really do believe it. In my relative's case, he went through a lot of trauma, flerfers give him a sense of belonging and something to hold onto.

  • Thanks. It was actually F12, I managed to catch it for the split second it showed; for some reason it doesn't always show the commands when I switch it on.

    This is what I got.

I selected Ubuntu and I got my choice back again. I hope i don't have to do this every time I boot though.

Thank you for being so patient with me.

  • I found an old picture of what my boot screen used to look like. If I wanted to do it via bcedit, what would my command line be? Sorry for being so clueless, I'm just really scared I'll brick my PC completely.

  • Protect your PC
  • I have no idea how to do this, but I'll keep looking for a tutorial. Luckily I only use my Linux for storing my music. I wish I could have got my art software to work on Linux, they just don't seem to want to cooperate. My WiFi adaptor also only wants to work about half the time, too.

  • Never mind that, Windows 10 did an update a couple of days ago, and now my dual boot screen has gone. I literally can't start my Linux Mint anymore, it boots straight to Windows :(

There is a way to get it back with the command line, but my computer nerd days are over.

I'm assuming that command needs to be edited to whatever my setup is, I have no idea.

  • Before the Ukraine invasion, I used to be able to do my weekly shop for under a fiver. Maybe £8ish if I was stocking up on store cupboard stuff. It's more than doubled since then.

  • As a second gen Indian in the UK, so much of my family's dishes are based on sauces with tomatoes and chilli, many of them have potato. But none of these are actually native to India, these would have been brought over after the colonialisation of the Americas.

  • smoking
  • My fella found this talk useful. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gnSEbLX94Tk He used to smoke the mild stuff (low THC), but it's the cigarettes he's been struggling with. He's on his third attempt, but after using the technique (TL;DW: your brain doesn't understand negative commands, replace it with a positive command. Instead of "I need a joint", try "I need air" or "I need clarity" or whatever feeling you're aiming for) he's feeling a lot more positive that he'll stick with it this time. I tried to get him to read the Allen Carr stuff, but he's not much of a reader. Other people swear by it though. It's available on a certain library beginning with z if you want to give it a taster. Also learning a new skill can give you the same dopamine hit that your addiction does, so take up a hobby, learn a language, etc.

    Good luck!

  • so computer papers don't fall out i think
  • I actively used it to backup my art files onto USB, up until last year when it kept giving me error messages when I tried to update it, so I thought, screw it, manual drag and drop. I'm not sure if the amount or size of files got too big for it. Up till then, it was great for backups as it would automatically detect what had been updated and only transfer those files.

  • Same, I tried ecosia too, only to get the same error.

  • My old Lenovo tablet has the USB port upside down on the plug, and consequently, the micro USB also plugs into the tablet upside down. And for some reason, stupid thing always breaks the little notches on the micro USB, so you have to position everything in a way so that it won't slide out while charging.

  • Today my friend is giving up smoking!

Not his first attempt, but I want to do whatever I can to encourage him to stay on the wagon this time. I don't have any experience of this, so I'd appreciate any tips from those who have been there already.

    Edit 02/10: he's still clean!

My phone's been on standby since May

And there's still this much battery left. A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one. I wasn't expecting it to still have any power left at all. I suppose with the sim out, all it was doing was powering the clock, but still! Unfortunately, I've had to retire it as my network won't connect on it anymore.

Is there software that can take tabs in pdf form and output the audio?

Hey, guys. I paid $30 for some tabs, but they're way too hard for me to work out. It's mostly the timing I'm struggling with (I'm used to yousician and songsterr telling me when to play a note) and my ear isn't good enough to work it out just from listening to the original song. Is there any software that can either output the audio or even just add a timing guide like songsterr? Thanks.

What do you recommend for recording my bass output onto PC?

Hi, hoping you might have some recommendations! I just play for fun and I'm very much a beginner. I'm not going to make any money out of playing, so I don't want to spend loads on pro gear. I just want something cheap to record my bass playing onto my PC just for my own personal practice.

I've seen some guitar jack to USB cables on ebay. Are they any good?
