Shot in 1.6 seconds: Video raises questions about how trooper avoided charges in Black man's death
  • Oh man. My first IED was very strange. We were driving on what we called route kill zone, and there was some traffic. And then we came to an overpass and seemingly everyone else took the off ramp. Came out the other side and just blammo. I saw the vehicle in front of me get pushed a lane over and then disappear into smoke and dust. I locked up the brakes so I wouldn't smash into them.

Turned out there was a sniper down the road and a can full of guys with RPGs on the bridge behind us. But we had no casualties or significant vehicle damage, so they apparently dipped. We hightailed it to a rally point that was literally 500 meters from where the attack happened. Front vehicle thought we were the ones that got hit.

  • I was scared when I was a 19 year old doing a patrol through Sadr City in 2003, while manning the .50 cal and having dozens of kids suddenly show up and throwing rocks at me. Did I waste them even though I would have been justified because it wasn't uncommon that patrols would go through markets and peopled start throwing produce and mix a grenade in?

No. Because I was well trained and realized that life is precious. And I was dealing with those rocks a lot longer than 1.6 seconds.

  • Cheapest form of balanced electrolytes for daily use?
  • Pickle juice. Also, pickles.

    Sauerkraut

I work outside doing physical labor, I maintain a giant jar of pickles at work and home. There is no better relief when I am feeling crampy after a hot hot day than a giant swig from the pickle jar.

  • Did you ever go to a city that was very different than you imagined and surprised you positively? If yes which city was it and why did it surprise you?
  • Seoul. I was barely 18 and got stationed there. I was expecting grass huts and donkey carts based off MASH or other movies I've seen.

But I was legitimately shocked. Like you know in movies when someone goes through Tokyo for the first time and they are starting struck, that was me in Seoul.

  • People that reversensear steaks are crazy and I will never understand them.

You are already getting the pan hot enough to sear, just leave it there a little while longer and it's cooked!

Came in halfway through mowing the yard because I wasn't feeling great.

Heavy metal puked like 6 times, drank some water and cooled down some. Felt better about 5 minutes later, so I went out and finished my yard and did my neighbor's.

Feeling 100% fine now. Sometimes you just have to get the evil out.

Help! Can't remember a title of an early CD-Rom game where you fought through the ages and into the future. SOLVED:Time Commando

It was a really early CD-Rom game, probably 1993ish. You started off in the stone ages using sticks and rocks, fighting off bad guys and solving puzzles, and you'd move through time using the weapons of that era. I don't think I would classify it as an educational game because outside of the weapons and settings, I don't remember much of it having any information.

I'm pretty sure it was the first video game I ever beat.

Edit: it was not a real time strategy game. It was third person perspective.
