I don't really trust Buttigieg not to be a sell out, but of all the ones being named, he's the one with the rhetorical chops to stand up to Trump. But maybe Trump will flat out refuse a second debate.
He subscribes to a branch of neo-reactionary politics coined "dark enlightenment" that basically rejects liberalism. In short, these fine fellows believe that we should be their literal serfs in a neo-feudal society. I think point for point, their ideology is even more fucked up than fascism.

American Catholicism might as well be a new Protestant sect. Catholicism does not really work like this. And the last three points don't really fit in with Catholic social teaching. I think the article should make clear that this "Catholicism" is really a subset of American Catholics and nothing more. Nothing to do with the Vatican, the Pope, and the Catholics in Europe, Latin America and elsewhere. Also, generally the Church supported liberal political parties especially when the alternative was socialist/communist, so to say that Catholicism is against liberalism is incorrect.

It's actually usually plays out like this. The elitist ego of the liberals convinces them, that they could use the fascists as their foot soldiers and hold them perfectly under control. Here's the problem with your partisanship. If you give a party your unconditional support, then they have no reason to cater to your needs. All they have to do is just to be slightly better than the alternative. Which is exactly the current situation and which is also exactly what makes the Democratic party today so unattractive. For the independent electorate it's feels as though they are being coerced into voting Democrat. That's not good for anyone.
This sounds about right. If you look at the rise of authoritarian parties in Europe you will see numbers sitting between 25% and 35% too. I have a feeling that this might just be an innate personality trait that people are born with. Some people are more submissive and prefer strong leaders, even at the cost of personal liberties. I mean, we already witness this in other aspects of life.
