It matters if we stop donating to them. If that happens, which it could since a lot of people are quite mad at them it would be detrimental to them. I'm all for it to be honest, people shouldn't donate to someone they dislike or view as crooked.
I doubt there will be a statement on the shrooms one as it was a niche community, with far less outcry than the piracy ones.
Also to all the people sticking up for lemmy.world and saying the ones bothered by this should just leave without a fuss. If it wouldn't have been for the people who were and still are being vocal you likely wouldn't even have had this announcement or transparency (which is what many of them were vocal about), and the mistake wouldn't have been realized, they'd just keep posting updates to the discord and left us here on the service in the dark about announcements, so would you rather have a people complain when something was done wrong and badly and get transparency or would you rather be left in the dark to wonder why something was done or happened.

The fact that we fund this place with donations gives us all the more right to criticize them for it. Are you also going to attack people for ceasing their donations because after this I'll never donate another cent to them ever again, and I encourage anyone else reading this to do the same.
I highly recommend people go to the issue relating to account migration on the lemmy software github and explain why account Migration is as important as it is and should not be considered as a second thought. Not being able to migrate ties you to an instance if you've been there long or participated a lot, it makes you dependent on them, this is not a good dynamic to have in the Fediverse, it's why other platforms like Mastodon have profile migration.
