I’ve been laid off 3 times since 2018. The first time was from my job of 6 years that I was pretty set in making my career. I was making money, I was getting promotions, it was looking like I’d have a nice long tenure there. Then came the corporate restructuring.
I got into a really weak job after a few months of unemployment cause the job market was rough. It gave me flexibility but the job itself was low pay and low responsibility.
Then Covid came and I got laid off again. Company stopped doing business in that field.
Found ANOTHER company that was similar but paid better and kept my flexibility. Was good for about 4 years then came corporate restructuring.
Now I’m back at the business from 2018 but under a new product lineup.
Point of all this is: I learned a valuable lesson in having less “successful” work. I learned how to actually value my time and the people who I provide for. At my career gig, I put in so many hours and really pushed myself, in the jobs after, I’ve been able to put my mental health first and take care of my family better. Sure it’s less money, but it’s more attention.
Money isn’t what kids need, they need you to be there for them first and foremost. Money just makes it easier to do things.
Good luck, and I hope your situation gets better.
I think people need to stop asking why didn’t people vote for Harris and as why DID people vote for Trump.
I think everyone on the whole, is completely underestimating the completely apathetic to politics voter. There is a TREMENDOUS section of the population that would sway from Trump if they felt energized to do so. Kamala was not it. Her policies were not it. Her stance alone on Gaza was not enough (but should not be dismissed).
People voted for trump because they: are a huge supporter, or they felt they had a fatter wallet during his administration. They feel burned by Biden and Kamala is more of the same. Democrats have no one to blame but themselves.
Biden shouldn’t have even run, no one wanted it. He even said he’d be a transitional president. Then he backed out and Democrats held no primary. Why would any apathetic voter (especially the ones who were unaware Biden dropped out, check google trends) vote for the guy who made their bank accounts smaller if that’s all they care about?
I voted for Harris but not without reservations. The democrats do nothing to resonate with the left, and continue to distance themselves from leftist policies, which were popular on ballot measures this election.
So far ahead of its time. I can’t recommend this series enough to anyone who considers themselves even kinda left.
Castlevania Lord of Shadow. I only played about 2 hours of 2 but it was such an awful departure from LoS. We’re due a new Castlevania…
Very misleading title. Hedorah is not that great a film. Now show me Biollante and we’re talking.
I love the double standard. Trump can say "arrest all the radical left" and "LOCK HER UP" but if a democrat grows a backbone and says it back it's "THEY'RE BEING MEAN!!! YOU CAN'T SAY THAT!"
This can either be a really great release or a really crap one. The original Rayman is a gem. It is deceptively hard though, so a remake with potential to buff the player wouldn't be the worst thing. I also don't hate the modern Rayman art-style, it would work pretty well with the original world and landscapes.
Fingers crossed it doesn't suck.
We can't even figure out how to not have half our society be rasict, how the hell are we gonna save a whole planet from our fuckery?
Easy: they like money. The entire ideology behind Trump is "he's rich and I can be rich like him too!" All the VC guys know they can manipulate him with very little money (for them) and get to keep/make more for themselves. He's only a true friend to the wealthy.
I suppose. But on Reddit, I wouldn't even bother to comment on a comment. So the sense of community is nice. Feels more like old forums or a familiar but lively discord.
Kinda yeah. BUT my comment to lurk ratio is still less than I did on Reddit. So even my few contributions are still more than I ever really did on Reddit.
Sam Altman always rubbed me the wrong way. He always seemed like he was trying to be the "humble" Steve Jobs - just as tyrannical and stubborn, but he was doing it "to better humanity" with AI. I call bullshit, he's just another tech billionaire asshole.
With all these billionaires popping up how do we keep forgetting that the guillotine exists?
I bought puts, but at this rate, the company will be bankrupt before the contract expires in January.
I sank ENDLESS hours in GT4. That is one of my favorite games of all time. I would love to see a retooling of GT4 in the GT 5 or 6 engine, but I'll take this.
I still have a save that I kept because the in game days were right before the black GT1 Cars went up in the used section.
The absolute best arcade racer to me was always NFS Hot Pursuit 2 for PS2. The physics were so much fun and the cars were a curated selection of cool.
Always loved the Project Gotham Racing series, especially 3. Tons of fun to drift in those games. The Kudos system was definitely a unique feature.
Been playing through the Ridge Racer games most recently. Damn these are just fun to play.
Sega Rally Championship will always stand out as some of the best driving physics early on.
Art of Rally and Art of drift are hella fun "zen" games with a unique art style.
I was always a sucker for some of the cash-in Fast and Furious era car fad games. Juiced, Tokyo Extreme Racer (out before all of it) Street Racing Syndicate, NFS Underground, Midnight Club 3. They're all fun but driving is always just ok.
My short list though: Gran Turismo 4 Forza Motorsport 4 or 6 (4 is less grindy I feel) NFS Most Wanted 2
Aim lower.
It sounds shitty but there’s merit. Think of it like an RPG, where you grind on low level fodder until you have enough confidence to land where you really want. Also, you may find that people who you’ve generally considered “unattractive “ in the past are actually really great because they’re genuinely decent people.
Bag a few 2 or 3 girls (by your standards) so you feel confident and good enough about yourself that you’re not in a pit of despair.
I also noticed is that when you really stop trying, that’s when things tend to happen. Like you have to consciously stop trying. People can smell the desperation and effort a mile away. Confidence is sexy because it comes off as effortless.
Give it a week. Their twitter account apparently acknowledged it may be coming soon.
Yes and in Nassau county NY, they’ve now made it ILLEGAL to wear a mask unless you can prove to a cop you’re doing it cause you’re sick.
Deadass.
Apparently the law exists because “bad actors” were protesting certain policies while “undercover” in a mask. This law was designed to “protect citizens and law enforcement from people hiding their identities to commit crimes.”
Actually that did happen at the same time now that you mention it. I managed to catch it quick though. It did happen shortly after midnight. Luckily I’m a night owl and was awake.
I am currently using the iOS password manager. I have my qualms with it but it’s been mostly pretty solid. I was an android user for years and used a fair share of password managers, I like the iOS one the best but I know some of the new managers are much better. I don’t know any other iOS compatible password managers. I’m open to suggestions.
Also every account that uses 2FA has either an Authenticator code or email to an authentication secured email address.
I received a notification last night that someone changed my shipping address on Macys.com and when I visited the website, there was an open order for a PS5 with delivery to a NJ address.
After logging into Macy's I got 43 emails at once to seven different services like "Excalidraw" and "Sportograf" trying to login using a magic link.
At this point was was pretty nervous so I checked my main email security. Sure enough, there have been repeated login attempts under my account going on every few minutes for weeks.
I also saw there was an attempted login to my cellphone or home internet company.
I use 2FA, authenticators, etc. Basically what else should I be doing? Is there any way to be more preventative? I really don't wanna chuck this email but it is possible that may be the safest recourse. I do use this email for almost 300 different accounts to various things though.
8/23 update
So I received this suspicious email as a “note to self” from Microsoft in my junk folder. It says it’s from my address but additionally says it’s an “unverified server.” I am leery of it being legit but it is oddly timed.
I’ve added the opening text of the email: “Hello pervert, I've sent this message from your Microsoft account.
I want to inform you about a very bad situation for you.
However, you can benefit from it, if you will act wisely.
Have you heard of Pegasus? This is a spyware program that installs on computers and smartphones and allows hackers to monitor the activity of device owners. It provides access to your webcam, messengers, emails, call records, etc. It works well on Android, iOS, macOS and Windows. I guess, you already figured out where I'm getting at.”
I’ve received these emails in the past and nothing, but I figure it bears mentioning here cause I was legitimately in a less than secure situation a few days ago.
I would love to see a visual representation of where US tax dollars are going based on address. Especially if it has pretty charts.
I used up play a ton of Doom mods years ago and a lot of the TCs were fun but lacked substance beyond the surface. Some of the new ones are cool but overly complex. (The Sonic cart game has an hour long tutorial before you start). I was a big fan of Simon’s Destiny, the Castlevania mod for Doom.
Basically I’m looking to see suggestions for free games or total conversions that are worth playing. Before I go spending money onSteam releases, I wanna check out what I might have missed the last few years.
A well timed release for Godzilla X Kong day! Check these guys out, both bands are pretty solid sludge!

When I was kid, I could sit in front of TV for hours and sink a day or two away into a game and have no problem having to start the game over from the beginning. Time meant nothing to me and I wasted it like it was a near infinite resource.
Now I am a parent and ain't got time for some of the nonsense that's in games nowadays. I'm lucky if I have even an hour to play each night.
A good example: Forza Horizon 5 allows you to switch cars mid game without traveling back to a house. That to me is a huge time saver compared to the recent NFS games.
Contrarily, Forza Motorsport (2023) makes you do qualifications every round. While realistic, a big time sink.
That said, what are some of your favorite games that have respect for your limited time?
