America’s housing crisis continues to worsen, renters are struggling more than homeowners, report says
  • I totally agree this isn't a easy fix and it will take decades to change but I feel that should be a challenge for the US to start making the change not a reason to keep the status quo.

  • Ticketmaster breach, beaches in general
  • I mean, if we genuinely had a significant amount of local, state and federal law makers that cared about protecting their constituents instead of whatever the fuck they are doing now, we could have some accountability.

  • America’s housing crisis continues to worsen, renters are struggling more than homeowners, report says
  • What frustrates me is there doesn't seem to be anyone in a position to promote change to this problem that is really talking about it. They may pay it lip service but nothing beyond that.

  • Healthcare? Oooo maybe next time...
  • Yes. but those people that lose their jobs wouldn't have to stress about either paying for or using healthcare - This freedom can give many people the opportunity to do something they love (or like to do). Maybe that is starting a new business or creating a new product? Or they could go work in a different industry that they find more fulfilling where previous they couldn't because of the lack of health benefits.

I think in the long run the people that lose their job grinding away in a huge faceless health insurance job might actually be a good thing for them?

  • Lemmy, how do you deal with heartbreak?
  • I was head over heels in love with this person for years then they dropped the bomb that they wanted to break up. I was devastated.

It was intense pain and sadness for a few weeks, then depression, then numb. For a long time I couldn't get them out of my mind, I wrote (but never sent) many emails to them about how I hurt. That kinda helped. I started to reach out to some of my friends and would do things with them. That kinda helped. I started a few new hobbies. That kinda helped. I started dating again. That kinda helped.

By the time I was doing all of that about a year had passed. I still thought of them, and I still do to this day (6 years later) but the sting and pain of that day is gone. I've been through a few break ups since then and I think I've taken them better because of the end of that relationship.

All that to say, you will heal - you may never forget them but the pain will go away. At this moment it may not feel like it will go away but it will and you will be a better person because of it

  • “I hope the younger generations can forgive us”: State oil company pushed $100 billion of deals in UAE’s year as COP28 host
  • Furthermore, working under the diplomatic cover provided by ambiguous language in the COP28 decision text, ADNOC plans to produce vast amounts of oil and gas for decades to come. In the year that the UAE hosted COP28, ADNOC sought oil, gas and petrochemical deals potentially worth close to $100 billion, a five-fold increase on what it pursued in 2022 and significantly more in dollar terms than in the previous four years combined. Our analysis shows that ADNOC sought or closed deals in 2023 with firms owned by or domiciled within 12 countries, including 11 of the 16 nations targeted in the leaked COP28 country briefing documents. In all, ADNOC and its subsidiaries either clinched or targeted at least 20 deals with international firms in 2023.

why the fuck would younger generations forgive you, if you treat these conferences as opportunities to secure more business for your oil empire?

  • What is the equivalent stereotype of 'women should all be homemakers,' for men?
  • I’m a little biased but I do look down on men that lack any handyman skills

That is a lot biased to the point that you can't even see that other men's lives may have put them in a position of not learning those things or even wanting to learn those things. It's great that you know how to do those things but just because someone has a penis doesn't mean they have to learn how to be handy. That doesn't make them any less of a man, just different from you.

The 1st Time Colorado Tried Fracking With A Nuclear Bomb

On Sept. 10, 1969, six and a half miles south of Rulison, Colorado, a 40-kiloton nuclear bomb exploded in the subterranean depths of the Piceance Basin.

The device, more than twice as powerful as the weapon at Hiroshima and with muscle equivalent to 40,000 tons of TNT, was an unorthodox tool in a grand experiment to free natural gas and kickstart a boom. The nuclear age wanted to give the oil and gas age a hand up.

Hundreds of conservative operatives outlined a plan that Donald Trump, or any Republican, could use to purge climate action from the federal government.

Conservatives have already written a climate plan for Trump's second term

Called Project 2025, it would block the expansion of the electrical grid for wind and solar energy; slash funding for the Environmental Protection Agency’s environmental justice office; shutter the Energy Department’s renewable energy offices; prevent states from adopting California’s car pollution standards; and delegate more regulation of polluting industries to Republican state officials.
