  • Is an organization still considered "fringe" or "far-right" if it perfectly aligns with the current administration?

  • Turn fox holes into foxy holes.

  • Which poison do I pick first, Dwarf Fortress or Caves of Qud?

  • I hate it when that happens.

  • Creature Commandos. The scene is basically unchanged, including the dialogue. The only thing different is that instead of a guy standing at a podium in front of a nazi flag, I put a nazi standing at a podium in front of no flag.

  • The American success story is in great part attributed to a steady stream of immigrants ready to and willing to exploit and be exploited for the promise of a better life for themselves or their children. Disrupt the flow of immigrants and the system might collapse.

  • It is difficult to make a determination if this is NSFW or not without the full text of the story. Please link it...for research.

  • Why you do me like this OP? It's too early to get hit this hard.

  • Billy's shirt goes hard.

  • Does that include the NSFW instances?

  • The number of examples of media becoming unreachable to paying consumers keeps growing.

Warner Brothers (Max) is the greatest example of this. Years of content from Cartoon Network just disappeared, leaving the consumer no legal avenue to enjoy some of their favorite shows.

I do not advocate for piracy. I advocate for archiving.

  • I've been expecting WW3 since 1983.

  • It sounds like one of the biggest mistakes was that he had enough stages for at least two games. He should have released earlier, then released the later stages as DLC (free or paid) or as a sequel.

But yeah game devs, and most artists TBH, need to have a strong social media presence as well as the ability to stream the process. Some people like to watch others create.

Reddit mod doesn't understand account scrubbing

My old Reddit account gets regularly scrubbed because Reddit keeps restoring shit. First, all posts get deleted (again), then all comments get replaced with crap, and after a few months, they too get deleted.

A mod looked at my profile and couldn't wrap his little brain around it. Hundreds of thousands of comments and post karma, but no posts. How? LOL

    Fuck AI @lemmy.world

I was an early beta tester of Google's Bard AI

I was an early beta tester of Google's Bard AI, now known as Gemini. Back then I was excited about a chatbot that could provide concise results to my search engine questions. It was soon apparent that the majority of the answers Bard returned were incorrect by varying degrees. Fast forward a number of years and Gemini results aren't much better. For example, I asked it for the standard tuning for a Puerto Rican Cuatro stringed instrument and the original result gave me the tuning for six strings even though the instrument has ten strings. I had to correct multiple times before it finally acknowledged my answer.

The amount of time and energy being wasted on this trash is infuriating.

Billy Crystal Lost His Home of 46 Years to Pacific Palisades Fire

“Janice and I lived in our home since 1979. We raised our children and grandchildren here. Every inch of our house was filled with love. Beautiful memories that can’t be taken away.”

This one hit me hard. I wish what Billy said was true, but it isn't that simple. As we get older, it gets very difficult to remember everything clearly. When people say "a house full of memories", what they really mean is a "a house full of memory triggers". Mr. Crystal, his wife, and his children have lost a lot of those triggers to the fire.

I might be silly and sentimental, but this made me genuinely very sad.

    Happy Epiphany/Three Kings Day!

Today, January 6th, is the 12th day of Christmas. You know, the one from the song. It is called Epiphany and in many countries it is celebrated as Three Kings Day.

If your family celebrates it, I hope you got a nice present!

A good reason to boycott Teenage Engineering

A recent copyright action taken by Teenage Engineering against Florian Pilz's "Bad Gear" ‪@AudioPilz‬ channel exposes a dangerous precedent lurking in the license agreement buried inside Teenage Engineering's materials: They have severe restrictions on exactly how you can use their devices in your published music. Unless you comply with their licensing restrictions, they could actually have a copyright claim against you, your music or your performances! In this video I expose what is going on, and how to avoid legal issues.

Why do Americans sing about but don't celebrate the 12 days of Christmas?

Many countries celebrate Christmas through January 6th (epiphany/Three Kings), the 12th day of Christmas, but not the US. That's fine. But why sing about it if you don't celebrate it?
