Bulletins and News Discussion from September 23rd to September 29th, 2024 - The War In The North
  • I've watched a couple of minutes of Aaron Máté debating hasbara on Piers Morgan, and it always amazes me how natural they try to make settler colonialism. One of the debaters was Fleur Hassan.

Fleur Hassan-Nahoum is an Israeli politician, media expert and policy maker. She currently serves as Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem in charge of foreign relations, international economic development and tourism.

Fleur Hassan-Nahoum was born in London and grew up in Gibraltar. She is the daughter of Sir Joshua Hassan, who served as the first Mayor of Gibraltar and, later, also served as the first Chief Minister of Gibraltar,[2] and his second wife, Lady Marcelle Bensimon,[3] both of Moroccan and Portuguese Jewish origin.

Hassan-Nahoum grew up bilingual, speaking Spanish and English In 2001, Hassan-Nahoum emigrated to Israel.

Imagine having to debate settlers like this during the ongoing settler colonial genocide. They condescendingly talk to you about the "generous peace deals" they offered to the Palestinians and Iran being the puppet master of Hamas and Hezbollah.

It's crazy. Fuckin mad world. Go back to London for fucks sake.

  • -umm I think, well maybe it wasn't Russia who blew up their own multi-billion € pipelines? Maybe Biden had something to do with it, since Biden said "If Russia invades... again, then there will be longer Nord Stream 2. We will bring an end to it." Maybe the US is involved somehow?

    -what?!?! straight to jail

  • Listen, when it comes to Amerikkkan bullshit electoralism, you must choose the lesser evil. You have to be pragmatic! My utilitarian calculation says you should vote blue no matter who. maybe-later-kiddo

When it comes to nuclear brinkmanship, then doing diplomacy is literally Chamberlain 1938 and you have to make a principled stance even though the whole Earth might die in nuclear hellfire.
That's a price liberals are willing to pay. Negotiating with Putin is weak. You should never compromise, no matter how many Ukrainians are sent to the meat grinder, even if nuking the whole planet is a real possibility.

    nuke

Yes, liberals are the adults in the room

  • Labour: Listen, we had to kill elders because of the economy
  • Were the justifications of austerity always this self-evidently wrong?

    Yes.
But usually they also use the subterfuge of comparing a sovereign nations budget to a household's finances. "If you're family is in debt, you have to cut spending. That is why nan needs to die in the cold. It's basic economics. There is no alternative. The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money. " margaret-thatcher

  • wow it came as a complete surprise that Keir Starmer wants to employ austerity measures
Who would've taught, that Keir Starmer (of all people!), the person who waged war on social democrats, is a Thatcherite? wow
    surprised-pika-messed-up

“We are taking the tough decisions now so we can fix the foundations and deliver on the mandate of change we were elected on to rebuild Britain.”

Remind me quick, what kind of economic policies they used after WW2 to literally rebuild Britain?

  • It is so absurd that shitlibs argue for voting for the lesser evil, but then they literally cheer and clap for it.

There was a slight disillusionment among libs when the Biden/Trump debate happened, but now they all literally cheer for the same ghouls and literally plug their ears when you try to remind them of the genocide that is still happening.

Lesser evilism is stupid anyway, the whole point is that they are both evil... but then they cheer?! They don't even pretend that the DNC is evil. Even the speeches were militaristic. At least Jon Stewart kinda made fun of them, just a tiny bit. He wouldn't play the video of the libs plugging their ears.

It's almost like lesser evilism is not sincere, but sophistry in order to get the left to cooperate with establishment parties.

We always jest about jokerifying moments, but this is clearly one of those. After you've seen it you can't unsee it.

  • "NATO is a necessary evil to be a bulwark against Russia". smuglord

aware of and hate all of NATO's war crimes and evil acts doubt

You can't deprogram brainworms such as this, they need to deprogram themselves.
But sure send them a bunch of links, then leave the convo.
No reasonable person could think that NATO is some kind of moral choice. Morality does not enter the calculus. NATO is constant sabre-rattling for the Western hegemony, Nothing more nothing less.

So they must think Western hegemony is morally good. They also probably think that USA was the lesser evil in the Cold War 1.0

    FT Reports A Ukrainian Warcrime

The willful killing of unarmed soldiers, especially when there is a good chance of taking them prisoners, is certainly a war crime.

It is astonishing that Christopher Miller of the Financial Times reports of it without further comment.

How Ukraine pulled off its biggest gamble: invading Russia (archived) - Financial Times, Aug 12, 2024

As Volodymyr prepared to enter Russian territory, adrenaline ran through his veins. It was not lost on him that 81 years ago, another battle in Russia’s Kursk region marked a turning point for Europe. ... “We entered Russian territory for the first time at 1pm on Tuesday [August 6],” Volodymyr said. “We were among the first to enter there.”

To his astonishment, his unit faced no resistance as their eight-wheeled, 20 tonne US Stryker fighting vehicle stormed across the border in broad daylight.

They soon encountered a Russian unit “sitting in the forest, drinking coffee at a table”, Volodymyr recalled. “Then our Stryker drives right into their table.

“We killed many of them on the first day,” he said. “Because they were unarmed and didn’t expect us.”

Not wanting to end up like their comrades, he added, “dozens” of stunned Russian soldiers simply laid down their weapons and surrendered.

"81 years ago, another battle in Russia’s Kursk region marked a turning point for Europe," writes Miller. He and others should consider what that really means. If I remember correctly, the German fascists and their Ukrainian allies also committed war crimes - and lost the fight.
