The same experience, sadly (Fairphone 2). I also bought mine used (so it may have had a long life before that), replaced the battery, and shortly after had enough components fail at the same time to make it not worth fixing. Mostly touchscreen problems and slowness. Shortly after I moved to a new country and found it couldn't connect to the cell network there (even with a new SIM card) so that was the end of it.
It's a real shame, I love the concept of it

Three ducks in a trench coat
I recently learned that a dear friend has an aggressive form of cancer. She is starting treatment soon. I don't know much about what dealing with cancer is like, so I thought I'd ask for people's experience here.
Traffick Cam: Help combat sex trafficking by uploading photos of hotel rooms from your travels
Traffickers regularly post photographs of their victims posed in hotel rooms for online advertisements. These photographs are evidence that can be used to find and prosecute the perpetrators of these crimes. In order to use these photos, however, investigators must be able to determine where the photos were taken.
I feel your pain. I've been there for sure, and I simetimes I get pretty sad/sensitive around my birthday because I've had many plans fall through. Reading this thread, I never realized before that this was such a common ADHD experience.
What's helped me a little bit is to plan smaller, but more frequent, things with just a few friends. It still doesn't really fill the longing for a great big party for me, but I've had better luck with people committing to show up when they know they'll only be one of 2-5. For example, how would you feel about having a few separate simple dinners with friends in the week of your birthday? As well, I've started insisting on potluck style if I ever do plan a larger thing. So much less headache around planning and quantities.
As for what to say to your friends... I get the awkwardness. I'd probably say something like "a bit smaller than expected, sadly", try to keep the tone neutral and quickly change the subject. I wouldn't want to lie, but there's also no use getting into all of it with someone who didn't show up. That would just bring up a lot of resentment and end up ugly for me.
All the best for your belated birthday, and I hope the next one is better for you.
About a dozen police cars just pulled up and blocked the Rupert / Broadway intersection in East Van. Anyone know what was going on?
Move your Lemmy settings from one account to another - GitHub - CMahaff/lasim: Move your Lemmy settings from one account to another
I've heard about LASIM a few times now, this great tool for migrating Lemmy subscriptions from one account to another. I downloaded it from Github recently to try it out... only problem? I have no clue how to get it to run. All the instruction I read online just say "run LASIM" as if it's that trivial and leave me feeling silly.
Can anyone explain this in terms that I (not an experienced programmer) could understand? Am I missing something really obvious?
Edit; I'm on Windows if that matters
I've had this happen a few times now. I type up a nice post, then add a URL in the "Post URL" field when I'm done, and it deletes everything I've typed. Infuriating for longer text posts... anyone else have this happen?

This is one functionality from Reddit I find myself missing quite a bit. Is there any way I can subscribe to a single post (that I didn't make) and get a notification whenever someone comments? I'm on Connect for Lemmy, but maybe a different app would offer this?
This was definitely one of the crazier bushwhacks I've done lately... was able to walk right up to within 20 metres of GZ, but those last 20 metres took about 15 minutes of climbing over dense, absolutely pathless foliage. I had my doubts on finding this because there were several prior DNFs, but in the end it felt very worth it for an almost 3 years lonely find.

Exactly one year ago today, thousands of geocachers and explorers gathered in Seattle, Washington, to celebrate over 20 years of geocaching. The official event ended up with over 2,700 Attended logs! Was anyone from Lemmy there, too?

Ever since the 2011 Geocaching Block Party, geocachers worldwide come together for a day of celebration and smileys on the third Saturday of each August. This holiday is just one of the many quirks that make the global geocaching community so endearing. This year, we celebrate the amazing biodiversity of our planet. Can we count you in on the 12th anniversary of this special occasion?
