Witness to the 1996 drive-by shooting of Tupac Shakur indicted on murder charge in rapper’s death

  • Yeah, I think they are just pointing in the line of succession doesn't do much if the VP was chosen by the president. We only made it 4 electiona before the 12th amendment was made and killed any hopes that the line of succession would be useful and Washingtons hopes that we wouldn't become a 2 party system were completely dashed.

Without the 12th Amendment I have no idea who would be president right now. Biden would have never been Vice President and such likely would have never been President. Harris the same. But the President would likely have an obstacle at all times in the Senate as the only way to get both the President and Vice President elected for the same "party" they would have to have 2 candidates beat 1 of another party, splitting the vote of their own party. In today's media age, it would be really hard to have gotten that done.

  • So when you walk up to a terminal with your Visa and you tap your card it inputs a one time code. That code only matches up on the point of sale/banks end. If they take the same code and try to transmit it at say Wendy's, it won't work, as it has already been used. If someone swipes your card with a magnetic strip, or reads the numbers off manually and enters them online/in person/or over the phone the information will stay the same and can be used at elsewhere.

Most of the anti tap worries are unfounded fear. Also the terminals that allow payments for two to pay also get registered so if someone steals a terminal to modify it, the terminal would be reported stolen by the owner, or if the terminal was purchased by the theif, it would have to be registered by them, and once again can get an investigation pointed in their direction fairly quickly. Is it possible to beat, I'm sure, but it's MUCH easier to just jot down the numbers or skim thee strip

  • Interesting, that's good to know. I immediately tried to lock the woman's phone next to me by using her number, she didn't have it turned on either. I have an odd feeling someone is going to write a script that locks someone's phone screen at random intervals throughout the day. Schedule it as a task whenever they log into their work computer so you can watch them struggle with it throughout the day then end the task when they lock their screen/log off.

  • It used to be pertinent to check the color of WD drives. I can't remember all of them but of the top of my head I remember Blue dying the most. They used to have black, red and maybe a green model, now they have purple and gold as well. Each was designated for certain purposes / reliability.

Source: Used to be a certified Apple/Dell/HP repair tech, so I was replacing hard drives daily.

  • I run Mint Cinnamon on a machine in my room for media. But also run a Jellyfin server off a pop_os server. My partner has a laptop that she updated to Win 11 that has had Audio issues ever since. When I boot to a live disk (linux), no issues. I've tried so many fixes for her system and it appears her step mother is having the same issue on another Win 11 machine. I've been trying to find a way to ensure she can run all the games she likes on an OS without being a headache. The Sims (probably 2,3,4). Stardew Valley, and such. Steam I have had luck with, but The Sims seems to come from an EA app which I believe I can run through Lutris. I have been hesitant to move that laptop because I want to be sure all of her games will end up working without hours of configuration that may break when she mods something in the game and needs a reinstall of the game itself. Has anyone had any luck with the EA app? I figure if she's paid for the licenses, I would rather use them than torrenting it all.

Mint Cinnamon was what I figured I'd use for that laptop, but if someone has a better suggestion I'd like to hear it

  • I find that just to be because we are emphasizing the day over the month there. It isn't independence month, it's independence day.

It just comes from the UK like most of our shit does. The papers that were coming from there in the 1700s when we gained our independence said month, day, year. We stuck with it. The Units came from there as well and we only modified them to keep a standard. Then we tried to go full metric, and Ronald Reagan killed it.

That said if people are talking nonsense at a table at the bar or lunch and someone asks when you were born, they are usually expecting you to say "September" or "1949". If they ask how old are you, they are expecting "47.". Everything usually has context. Because usually someone only asks those questions if one they are talking about Astrological signs, or they are thinking that one age is better than another. To old to young nonsense.

  • Not sure it's lobbyists. Maybe actual bribes, or just not wanting this for personal gain later, but he can't be re-elected. His second term for Governor ends with the 2026 election. Lobbying would imply he was taking money for his election campaign but there won't be one for him unless maybe he's running for a seat in the legislature?

  • Is it a Chromebook? PC stands for personal computer. So a PC laptop could have any OS on it. The usual assumption is Windows but you said Gemini keeps harassing you and not Copilot so it sounds like it could be a Chromebook. Those used to be locked down horrible machines, but I haven't used one recently.
