Apple finally adds support for RCS in latest iOS 18 beta | TechCrunch
  • I live in Poland, and most people use Meta's Messenger here, although some people use WhatsApp and some also Telegram (but mostly Ukrainians and Belarusians).

Personally I use regular old plain SMS, Messenger, Telegram or Discord depending on situation.

  • They seem to be a natural replacement for smartphones if portable enough. Although I see a possible danger of people being addicted to technology and social media even more, since you literally can't escape it of you have it on your nose.

That said I will definitely be an early adopter if these AR headsets become affordable enough.

  • Academia to Industry
  • What a bunch of bullshit. I've asked ChatGPT recently to do a morphological analysis of some Native American language's very simple sentences, and it gave absolute nonsense as an answer.

And let's be clear: It was an elementary linguistics task. Something that I did learn to do on my own by just doing a free course online.

  • Academia to Industry
  • Having a PhD only means that you have a piece of paper. I don't to offend people but some people that work in a field not related to their PhD sometimes have no clue about anything, and they probably don't remember anything from the university as well.

  • Learning english
  • That's why everyone learning English should also learn basic IPA to be able to read phonetic transcription and pronounce words correctly.

Just knowing the symbols for all English vowels/consonants is fine, no need to study IPA more than that, unless you find it interesting, like me.

I recommend reading this Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_phonology.

Just look up consonant and vowel charts here, you don't need to study the details unless you really need to. Especially given that this article is full of linguistic jargon, and you probably won't be able to understand any of this unless you have elementary knowledge of phonetics/phonology.

  • CRANKIN' MAH HAWG!!!
  • When I was in early 20's it was much easier for me to chat with people much older than me than ones of my age, unless they shared my hobbies and interests.

Now in my late 20's, I still find chatting with people of early 30's easier, but I think that's reasonable.

  • Google disrupted YouTube video playback on Firefox, again - gHacks Tech News
  • That's a lot of effort, given how many people I am subscribed to. And I wouldn't say that it' "peanuts", after all they redistribute 55% of YouTube Premium earnings, that's a lot more than what other similar subscriptions give.
