I want to know what's up in my friends lives. I want them to tell me if they've got problems. I love them. I want to be there for them, and I want them to listen to me if I need it once. Otherwise, what's the point?

Was für Optionen bleiben gefühlt in einer politisch deoslaten Gesellschaft im Endstadium des Kapitalismus, wo der Supreme Court gerade autokratische Macht an die Position verliehen hat, in die demnächst ein impulsiver, narzisstischer Vollidiot gewählt wird?

Mir kommt da eine besondere Textzeile von Danger Dan zum Thema Militanz in den Sinn. Wie weiß, wie sich unsere Timeline weiterentwickelt, jetzt da ein gescheitertes Attentat im Zentrum der Aufmerksamkeit steht (und Agenda 2025 und Co. aus den News verschwinden).

Es kann nicht das Ziel sein, dass wir uns gegenseitig erschießen müssen, um die Gesellschaft vor dem Faschismus zu schützen. Aber verdammt - ich würde lügen wenn ich nicht sagen würde, ich versteh die Perspektivlosigkeit dahinter.

Und irgendwann, irgendwann ist der Punkt erreicht, wo es leider doch wieder stimmt. Ich hoffe, da sind wir noch nicht. Aber ich würde nicht darauf wetten, dass es nie wieder dazu kommt.

Inzwischen hab ich einen noch besseren Artikel dazu gefunden, der war vorher als ich genau nach so einem Artikel gesucht habe noch nicht online.

Bin ganz deiner Meinung. Das ganze ist so verdammt nützlich für Trump, dass ich auch die Leute verstehe, die jetzt schreiben, dass es von den Republikanern geplant sein musste, auch wenn ich das persönlich nicht glaube. Was besseres hätte ihm nicht passieren können.

Alles gute Fragen. Unabhängig davon finde ich es persönlich gruselig darüber nachzudenken, dass Trump jetzt mit ganz hoher Wahrscheinlichkeit gewählt wird und die Schwelle für gewalttätige Ausschreitungen in den USA wahrscheinlich ganz deutlich sinkt. Der November dürfte spannend werden.

Ironically, behind all this is a misconception that we're actually constantly working on with our patients. The truth is that the clinics would function better and we could offer better therapy if, for example, we weren't so overworked and enough staff were employed. But in order to achieve this, we would have to make decisions again and again in specific cases, which are less pleasant for patients in the short term. Specifically: saying no to our employers more often, strikes, and in the worst case resignation. Sensible in the long term, unpleasant in the short term. For our patients. And that's the crux of it.

Unfortunately it is always easier to discover those mistakes in the thinking of others. I have met dozens of colleagues who avoid fighting for better working conditions for precisely these reasons (while advising their patients to avoid this error in particular). And clinics of course know this and take advantage of it.

So better negotiation skills are really only party of the solution (although also very important). I think in the long term we need better education and more focus on socialist ideas, specifically on how and why employee rights (and the ability to self-care) are such an integral requirement to a job well done.

That's an interesting one. As a psychotherapist from Germany I can say we're definitely not low paid, but it is much less than other academic professions, and especially in relation to the time it takes to get qualified (roughly 10 years) and the cost of approbation itself (varies from 30k-160k, and that's in a country where education usually is free) it's really not a good fit for someone who is very financially motivated. (Ironically because of the high upfront cost the job tends to attract people from well endowed backgrounds though.)

I think like in many helping professions we have a majority of very idealistic people who don't negotiate very well. Employers get away with way too much because refusal at our side at first only ever hurts the patients, so we kinda keep up with it. Maybe something similar is happening in the professions that are in my mind actually the most underpaid for their time, and that's nursing and care work of all sorts.

Ich hab mal mit ner Inderin zusammengelebt - vorher und nachher nie wieder so scharf gegessen und auch vertragen. Die Toleranz für Schärfe geht schon schnell nach oben. Und ich muss sagen: Es gibt Geschmackskomponenten in den vielen Chilis und Pfeffern, die man untrainiert wirklich gar nicht mitbekommt, weil es einem die Zunge verbrennt. Fruchtige, zitronige, sogar richtig süße Noten. Manchmal vermiss ich das. Meine Chili Kondition ist inzwischen fast wieder auf deutschem Kartoffel-Niveau. (Aber das Leid, da wieder hinzukommen, ist es mir nicht wert.)

It's easy hiding behind passive-aggressive rhetoric. I've yet to see you actually argue in favor of anything.

Again, if I assume you're a sane adult it still sound to me like you're asking the west to do even more.

Another way to read this would be if you'd claim the adequate response to fascist warfare is to instantly surrender and give the aggressor whatever they want - which would obviously completely ridiculous.

Well, sounds like we should help Ukraine even more, since Russia's idea of peace negotiations can be summed up as "lol just give up".

I mean surely that's what you're advocating for here, right? Better support for Ukraine to survive the war of aggression, which, as we established, is Russias fault and entirely reprehensible.
