Carrying on an old tradition. What features / issues should I work on next?
  • 2 old features I liked from the reddit version. Probably going to be quite low priority versus some other things, but they're the missing things I'm noticing most.

    1. The little "next / previous comment" arrows. Worked very well for skipping comment chains when you're already a bit into them.

    2. The little "+#" count next to the total comments to show how many new comments have popped up in a post. Combined with the unread comment dot it made keeping track of new comments on a thread I liked nice.

  • Do you pirate? And do you justify pirating? i.e., what is your piracy philosophy?
  • Only thing I've pirated was a show with no reasonable means to access it legitimately in my region. Hell, I couldn't even access it via VPN because the services it was on didn't accept my card due to region.

Normally of the mind that if it isn't worth my money it isn't worth my time, but in this case I just wasn't allowed to pay them for it. Hardly my fault when they've gone that far out of their way to block me buying it.

  • Samsung Galaxy S24 will allegedly switch back to Exynos in Europe
  • Will wait to see how it plays out. Seems that the Exynos 2400 is expected to be less crap then the past few gens of Exynos processors, so so long as it's not going to crater battery life or performance vs the Snapdragon models I'm not fussed.

  • Reddit users who switched to Lemmy, what is the most annoying thing you have seen about Lemmy users?
  • The sheer amount of pro-communist/pro-china comments is insane here

It's been increasingly noticeable for me. That and the Linux die-hards (can see why the "how to tell someone's a Linux fan" meme exist now)

I'm in the same boat with communities as well. Very little for stuff like Destiny or Game Dev, and even when those communities exist they're typically a lot lower in quality.

Only reason I haven't gone back to reddit as my main site is because the mobile app is actually as bad as people say. But I've been visiting reddit communities via web browser a lot more frequently over the past fortnight.

  • Locked
    The Problem with LMG
  • Stealing and selling their best prototype also means they couldn't send it to a better reviewer to demonstrate it isn't a bad product.

Honestly atrocious behaviour from them over this. Any 1 bit of this would be bad, but all of them together could absolutely ruin a start-up. And all because Linus didn't want to spend "up to" $500 worth of people's time.

  • One-time payment for ad-free is live in Beta 25. It's $19.99 USD. Update your app if you don't see it.
  • Edit: seems like 20$ will be ads removed lifetime but No fancy features.

As far as I can tell this is the case. Fair enough with how long Sync for Reddit lasted.

I saw someone saying there would be an ultra lifetime payment option coming as well, although not a part of the discord so can't confirm that.

  • Sync for Lemmy (beta) is now live for everyone
  • Seems good so far, feels very nice.

Honestly forgot how good Sync feels. Such an enormous difference vs connect for Lemmy. Should make Lemmy a good bit better for day to day use.

Only thing I've noticed is that I can only see a sub. Would definitely prefer not to add another sub to the mix if a one time purchase is viable.

  • Will there be a pro version?
  • Another reason may have been due to the in app purchase stuffing up sometimes. I believe it was a Google thing, but iirc sometimes it would just forget you'd bought pro within the app and start showing ads again.

  • ""Higher"" ""Quality""
  • Pretty sure YouTube messes with it on desktops as well. Might default higher, but I had to use that advanced YouTube add on to force it to 1440p (or next highest) because it would constantly make me select it.

  • ""Higher"" ""Quality""
  • Difference is definitely noticeable on modern phones. But the biggest issue is it will do this on desktop and tablets as well, where you will really notice the difference.

And like you said, YouTube 480p mode doesn't have 60fps. That's noticeable regardless of screen size.

  • ""Higher"" ""Quality""
  • Even with high speed internet it seems to always default to 480p.

It'll update to 720p or 1080p a few minutes in sometimes. But in general it's just a large inconvenience.
