How do I cope with the Steam Community?
  • I enjoyed memes back in the forum days because they weren't frequent with it being more discussion base, so when they showed up it'd have a tendency to actually be funny. But, move towards generating meme content quickly diluted the experience of memes with forcing of memes.

  • Current system seems like capitalists dream of underpaying employees as much as possible and having the narrative pass the blame to be between customers and workers.

And even better that workers will argue against actually being guaranteed a higher salary in favor of this system on the off chance they might get more. Sort of like gamblers who get off the high of that one big win. Either way, the shift away from having to pay full salaries and benefits is cause for celebration for owners, since they love that it's more likely they don't get blamed and instead the customer when the owner has enough money to take home profits and live well instead of struggling like their employees being paid the bare minimum.

It's pretty much the absolute ideal situation for them. No blame and lower expenses. And most wonderful part of it all is workers being expected to cover the salaries of other workers as opposed to the people at top, so they continue to win in every facet.

  • Depends on the industry. Degree based ones like medicine or accounting and or trades are easier to get into the industry to make a comfortable living for the average perdon. Now upper tier is another matter, and that does heavily benefit from relationships if going for like high management level positions.

But, the art and performance based ones like movies and music is one where relationship definitely is heavily shifted to being important, and talent and work ethic guarantees nothing. And financial security is very unstable and hard to attain for the average person to grind it out, so every advantage matters to even be considered for a job that could end up being stable.

So nepotism doesn't discount their talent or hard work, but there's no need downplay the role it played to even get a shot.

  • If I were him only thing worse than being called a nepo baby would be my mom coming out publicly to tell people not to call me a nepo baby. That's like further drawing anything to the issue and as embarrassing as a student would be of their parents loudly telling everyone in school to not be bullies.

  • Haha yeah it actually shows what a huge initial advantage it even is to be able to get a chance to act in the industry, and highlights how they could have not been in the industry without nepotism. There's a lot of talented people but only so many people the industry is willing to give a look, so relationships really matter if you don't want to rely on lottery type luck. Industry doesn't have a shortage of people.

  • The Boys – Season 4 Official Teaser Trailer
  • Problem with a lot of shows is that they start off strong then get worse and worse as they drag it out as it gets more popular. Kind of felt like it is headed that way with how the last episode ended up feeling like a sitcom of everything just returning back to the status quo with some slight changes to up the stakes, but it really remaining the same. So it did feel like show should be coming to an end soon anyways. Plus, with how dragged out hiatuses between seasons are now days wrapping things up sooner is not something I have issue with.

  • House of the Dragon Season 2 | Official Teaser
  • Only reason I gave it a chance was that the source material was complete and considered well written, and having read it after season 1 I can confirm show should be in good place. Even if it isn't I don't care, since unlike Game of Thrones the source material is actually available.

Car dealers say they can’t sell EVs, tell Biden to slow their rollout
  • Yeah, hate haggling. Never know if it is actually a good deal, and tracking prices and deals is so unreliable compared other goods with the way those have historic price tracking recorded on sites like camelcamelcamel or keepa. Keeps consumers in the dark with only a broad idea of what isn't a scam price and making the experience as exhausting as possible to extract money from them.

  • Isn't that what sale is with it being sporadic? Retail price is for people who can't wait for sales and need it now.

Not sure how retail price would be used. Permanent price drops are rare for pretty every purchasable good out there beyond digital games with companies saying something is X% off leading to more purchasing with consumers thinking they are getting a deal.

Publishers I believe are also the ones with power to fill the market with Steam keys to then have it priced however they want and including them in bundles that are sometimes less than the price of just the game alone during a sale. Some publishers opt to not make steam keys available at all.

As consumer it's just unusual to see accusations of price fixing, since I can so easily get steam keys for cheaper. And only times I usually go buy direct from Steam these days is if a company doesn't offer steam keys, so the only way to buy a steam copy is through steam. And prices for games feel like they've been so cheap that it's the one thing I have no complaints about.

  • [Feature Request] Block specific communities on an instance locally

I've liked using the keyword filtering for communities, but sometimes some keywords are too broad so that's when I'd like to be able to filter out the specific community instance so an example being community@instance

It's something I came across on Boost which I liked. It's called mute there. Would help keep specific communities from popping up when I'm browsing as a guest on an instance where I'm unable to use the account based community filtering.

    [Request] Connect settings export function

I would like to be able to export the settings I have for Connect so in case I ever have to reinstall this app I can restore all the settings I had for it instead of redoing everything manually.

Community keyword based filtering is amazing

Not something I've seen even in a reddit app before. So the first of its kind I've encountered.

Incredible and makes browsing /c/all so much better, and I don't have to individually block new versions of communities anymore.

And ability to change view between list and card without having to go into settings is also fantastic.

[Request ] keyword based community blocking

So it blocks communities with certain keywords in them like anything containing 'meme' as an example.

Would be an amazing feature, since blocking communities becomes wack a mole with the amount of duplicate community names that pop up from different instances.

[Request] Hold down on hyperlinks to be able to see the full url

Like an example would be this url. It would be nice to be able to check where a link goes to before committing to clicking it and being sent to the url provided.

I love that you can add instances and view them without having to sign into an account for that instance

Browsing locally through it to find new communities that might not have been added to the instance I use has been very helpful.

It's a killer feature I keep using and has me coming back to liftoff.

[Request] Ability to filter communities and keywords throughout app

App is great now. And I like being able to add other instances and being able to view all or local from that instance to find new communities to subscribe too.

Only thing I've been missing has been blocking is only effective for the instance or instances you are logged into, so having something that filters everything without account dependency would be great.

[Request] Filter and subscription feed that functions indepent of an account

My instance lemmy.one was down with no status updates for several days. And made realize that I'll probably need multiple accounts should an instance I use disappear. Or a more feature rich accountless experience if I decide to just wait for my instance to come back online as I lurk on another instance.

So seems useful to be able to have a subscription feed and filter list that can function without an account, which would make swapping accounts be a more consistent experience in the event there is a need for account migration due to instance being down or completely disappearing as some people have already experienced and lost their sub list in the process.

Like example of an app with a good accountless experience is Stealth for Reddit. It has no account sign in, but lets users have a personal subscription feed and save function which can be exported to a json file.

What are good not too crazy expensive 60-65% options these days?

Looking for something that has qmk/vial support, hot swap, and in the price range of my first and only keyboard that was the kbd67v3. I am leaning towards wanting to try 60% unless 65% has better affordable options.

Already got cherry mx caps, and switches I like, so just need everything else.

What is a good wooden wrist rest that isn't too expensive?

I saw the glorious gaming wooden wrist rest but not a fan of the logo. Is there something better in the price range?

    I use a 65% keyboard so don't need a full length one.

I've been wishing for a mechanical keyboard with hot swap and qmk that has a trackpad like the Logitech k400

I like how long the battery lasts on the k400, the range, and it's such a nice accessory for when I'm on the couch and navigating my PC from the television. Having trackpad right there is great too.

But, the typing experience is really lacking. Has there been any quality options to this?
