Phone calls still assume the people on the receiving end are attached to a desk.
  • Generally I get work emails to tell me things and work phone calls to ask me things. One twenty minute conference call could equate to about 800 emails going back and forth. (Also, some of our best staff don’t read and write (English) too well.

  • Pineapple Chilli, The New Pineapple On Pizza
  • Pineapple and chilli is one of my favourite taste combinations on this planet… I’ll even sometimes bang some (rice or cider) vinegar in there for a hot-sweet-sour flavour.

In my experience if you throw pineapple in a blender before adding it to the sauce almost everybody loves the flavour profile - even the pineapple haters. Go figure.

  • Why in 2024 do people still believe in religion? (serious)
  • Religion dissolves uncertainty. Why does….? Because the sky man said so. How does….? Because the sky man made it that way. What should I do with my life and how should I live it? Here’s a book written by the sky man and it has all the answers. No more thinking… I suppose it’s probably of great comfort to many.

  • Just realized that "upside down" means "the up side is down", making it upside down
  • It could be to do with something called “ablaut reduplication”. Very basically English has a - kind of - untaught sound order that native speakers inherently apply to the language. Wikipedia will have an article to explain it better. Specifically the vowel order I-A-O. A great example is the phrase “Bish bash bosh” which is getting coverage recently. (One notable exception is “shit, shower, shave” but that is probably down to the chronology of the actions.)

  • He came with receipts
  • I’m not sure… I believe some instances do. I don’t know the difference between defederation and blocking. I just tried the lemm.ee web address and searched “all” and nothing porny turned up. Maybe there’s an nsfw filter you need to turn off? I’m not sure; but I do know there’s a tonne of porn here, somewhere. Good luck tracking it down.

  • Did you know?
  • I’m used to politicians being corrupt, hypocritical, dishonest, out of touch, naive etc. but I hoped they’d never become stupid/insane and yet...

Maybe in the future your parents will get a presidential candidate they actually want to vote for but It’s nice to know that in an age of vitriol and misinformation there are adults looking at the bigger picture and making a pragmatic choice. Good on them.

  • Did you know?
  • I’ve often wondered how many traditionally Republican people couldn’t bring themselves to vote for Trump versus how many people gravitated towards voting Republican for the first time because of his proclamations. Ultimately, did Trump bring more voters or lose more voters for the party he represented?

  • Did you know?
  • Good numbers. Thank you. Between your answer and somebody else I think we’re currently at about six in ten eligible voters voting of which about three voted Trump so about thirty percent of active US voters all share the same baseline of stupidity. (According to this meme’s cannon) Still seems big numbers, an inordinately large cluster, but I’m no expert. (I’m now tempted to find out how many people are “unregistered non-voters” (?) that could legally become enfranchised and see how that affects the numbers again)

  • Stop cancel culture!
  • No. It’s just that at the birth of British political parties the Whigs (liberals) were the opposition to the Tories. A liberal institution having a Tory bias would be as likely as a vegetarian society having a meat eating bias. The sentence op posted is an oxymoron.

  • Did you know?
  • Unfortunately, yeah, man’s not wrong. I know there’s supposedly some quote attributed to a US President about him being unhappy that half the population is below average intelligence and wanting something done about it… if true that’s a real smh moment.

  • Stop cancel culture!
  • The leaders of the opposition and the third party are not Tories, none of the governments of Wales, Scotland nor Northern Ireland are Tory. The church leaders aren’t Tories and nor are the judges. Under these circumstances it’s quite hard to stack the deck entirely in your own favour. Plus, even if everybody in the privy council was Tory they’d still not be able to agree on anything anyway.

  • Stop cancel culture!
  • Correct. Mostly senior politicians of ALL major parties ( so that could theoretically be a mix of tories, labour, snp, lib-dem, dup, sinn fein, plaid, green, sdp (if anyone is still alive), independent etc.) across the floor of either House of Parliament; plus some religious leaders, some British and also non-British judges and a few other people. Bit of a mixed bag because if all your advisors agree on everything you probably need new advisors.

  • Did you know?
  • Yeah, sorry, my bad. Thanks for reminding me - I sometimes forget that it’s now the cyber-hydra we’ve inherited rather than a platform for discussion and harmless entertainment. I’ll try and remember to wind my neck in.

  • Did you know?
  • The problem here is that no matter how much you hate Trump and his grift policies are you really ready to suggest that just under half of your voting age adults nationwide all have the same (low) intelligence? That would not seem to reflect well on your compatriots either when you calculate averages, means and medians.

  • Stop cancel culture!
  • In the interests of checks and balances it’s worth noting that the Secretary of State should only recommend from a list of people provided by the Privy Council. And yes, in my opinion too, politically appointing judges is absolute insanity for a number of reasons.

  • Stop cancel culture!
  • So when (if) the Conservative Party fail to win an absolute majority at the forthcoming general election and a new party (parties) form the government what effect will that have on BBC productions and editorial policy? How will I detect these government controlled shifts in output? Will all the (current) government planned and controlled content be immediately shelved and the new government will only show repeats / reruns until new propaganda is produced?
