Are there any better apps for viewing Google Sheets on mobile?

This document isn't changing every time I view it, but Google Sheets wants me to reload it each and every time I close my phone. Even if I'm in airplane mode it gives me this prompt, and of course just loads the same document.

What is it even doing when I hit the Reload button??

  • Yours and other comments have been insightful and have made me reconsider some assumptions I did not realize I had made, so thank you.

I'll concede that a sedentary person of normal weight doesn't need to worry much about getting all their essential amino acids. If I was interested in gaining muscle on a plant-based diet, would you say that I would still be wasting energy by stressing about eating all the proteins? Wouldn't that make my only issue getting the right amount of calories?

I'll look for some literature when I have the time but if you have any off-hand knowledge you could share then I would appreciate it.

  • I'm not sure what the implication of living in a developed country is. People can have vastly different diets in developed countries and people may have different protein needs. Just because you live in a developed country doesn't make you immune to malnutrition.

  • Thanks for the link! Neat video, and I'll make a note to skim the sources for the video. Honestly I'm happy to be wrong on this as the issue of getting enough protein for gaining muscle has made me reconsider my diet a lot in the past.

  • Great post!

I wanted to add that this isn't quite how proteins work. Those protein-rich legumes aren't what you would call 'complete proteins.' There's a number of amino acids our bodies use as proteins and while legumes are a good source of many of them, there's a couple proteins you won't get enough of from just the beans. Fortunately, brown rice- while not as rich in protein- gives you the proteins that the beans are lacking. That's why beans and rice are a match made in heaven.

Herbivorous animals are just better at metabolising proteins from plants and of course they're capable of eating much more than us. That's why they're able to live off of grass.

This just stuff I read up on a few years ago so if I've gotten something wrong please say so

  • You might notice Pork Belly and Ribeye Steak belong way higher than the red dots representing them. In your proposition, I don't think there exists an elegant way to represent those data points.

  • Most expensive national teams in the world
  • I think it's mostly a consequence of measuring squads by total value. Ukraine have two goalkeepers valued at 25m, which obviously inflates their squad value relative to how strong their performances can be, because one of your 20m+ players is always on the bench. Also, and probably more importantly, the total squad value is very skewed by singular expensive players. Look no further than Norway, notoriously an unremarkable performer, but their squad value is over 500m because Ødegaard and Haaland are worth 110m and 180m respectively. Those two alone are worth more than the entire Japanese squad.

It's obvuously not a clear-cut indicator of performance.

  • Most expensive national teams in the world
  • TransferMarkt lists 27 players on the USA squad, so to achieve a value of 350m, the average player value only needs to reach a bit under 13m.

Pulisic is listed at 40m, Balogun at 30m. There are a handful other players in the 20m valuations, meaning the remaining squad players' valuations barely need to reach 8m or 9m to achieve that 350m number.

  • Is there any significance to people using emojis that match their skin tone?
  • Other responses are kind of fence-sitting so I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say yeah it's poor taste, but forgiveable. I think it just boils down to why would you use a skin tone that's not yours? Some people like having an emoji that's they share with others of their color, so why intrude on that?

  • Is there any significance to people using emojis that match their skin tone?
  • Then what is your explanation for black and brown people more likely to use the skin toned emojis, as has been mentioned so much in this thread? Are they less lazy than white people, or care more about it? If they care more about it, then why?

  • Is there any significance to people using emojis that match their skin tone?
  • White dude here. I use the white skin emojis, but honestly I think it's just because I see my black and brown friends use their skin tones as a rule, and I feel like using the yellow tone is a bit weird when others are using the skin tone customization.

I'm not ashamed of my skin color or anything and the phone remembers my last tone selection so I don't really see a reason to not use it.

  • Don't you all get tired of the constant negativity?
  • All and probably most Local feeds are negative. If you're looking for a more positive experience, you should change the way you interact with Lemmy and the Fediverse.

First, you should investigate different instances (or consider hosting your own) and find one that sounds like it has a better vibe. Then use the Local feeds instead of All.

Second, look for better communities. Many people complain about there being different iterations of communities but this is where that's a strength of Lemmy's structure. If the news community you're frequenting is too full of downers, then look into different news communities. Or- again- if you're feeling up to it, make your own and advertise it as a light-hearted community, then moderate it as such.

Does the TierMaker Community Tier List actually reflect the opinions of the Discworld community?

    TierMaker Discworld Community Tier List

Apologies for not being able to upload an image at the moment.

Obviously TierMaker isn't the be all end all of community opinion, but I stumbled upon this tier list recently and found it strange. I have a handful of friends who have read some of the books, and they were surprised by some of the tierings too. Some trends I noticed:

    • "Entry" books seem to be tiered high, and books occuring later in the Discworld timeline get tiered lower
    • Tiffany Aching books are tiered very low
    • I believe the earlier books are generally getting tiered higher than the later books, but I haven't actually verified that.

I guess my biggest question is is the opinions of the community actually so diverse? Maybe many folks haven't read all the books so it gets skewed like that? The site says it compiles 32 tier lists which sounds like a decent amount of data to me.

    [Seeking Advice] DM changing style

Hey y'all, I've been thinking about this for a while and I was wondering if there was any advice here, perhaps people who have been through something similar.

I've been DMing 5e for a while; I started maybe 7 or 8 years ago in college. I ran LMoP for my roommates to begin, and I had a campaign that lasted two semesters for a different group of friends. That second one was super homebrewed, and hugely successful in that it seemed like everyone had fun. But throughout that campaign I realized there were a lot of things in my game I wasn't satisfied with, especially in regards to combat and the "difficulty" of the game. PCs blew my encounters out of the water and took long rests whenever they felt like, and I wanted there to be stakes, dilemmas, etc. That stuff has been pretty widely discussed online and I have learned a lot since then.

Since then I've only had one group stay together for a reasonably successful campaign, and I thought I could do more or less the same as I had done before, but better. I had one player from the previous campaign as well, which I thought would be a boon. He's my best friend and I love the guy, but I realize now he just doesn't like the way I have evolved my DMing. He doesn't like how there's not always time to take a long rest or fighting without all his resources, he doesn't like encounters more complex than running into the fray to swing swords and cast spells, and he doesn't like that the characters might die now. He's been pretty open about this, and he's told me that in his opinion, the way the game should go is the players face some obstacles but they overcome them, and it's unsatisfying if they don't, and character death is unsatisfying and unfair, and imo if I read between the lines he basically wants to be able to run his warlock into an Annis Hag and know that he will come out the other side alright.

To be clear, this isn't a bash-my-friend post or a problem-player post, I appreciate his honesty and how he knows what he wants from the game. The problem is I am having a lot of fun with the things I've learned, and I don't wanna go back in the playhouse. So the question is how do I handle this and AITA? Would I look for a new group, or is that me thinking the grass is greener with folks I don't know very well? I don't want to run a game that my friend will get tilted in, but I am so bored with running simple encounters that get exploded by a party that gets a long rest between every fight. Help please.

    Why are we on 0.18.1-2-ga6cc12afe?

I don't see another instance using that buikd and most are just on 0.18.1 I think.

Apologies if my jargon is wrong.
