My dad sayin some funny ish.
  • Oooh so that's what he says, thank you very much, now i can truly see the joke

  • hell yeah mint
  • Ooh haha, that really confused me there, thanks for the explanation!

  • hell yeah mint
  • Wait what?

  • Will installing windows on a separate drive break my current linux install?
  • Yeah, i usually have a bootable usb with some Linux distro laying around exactly for cases like that

    Thanks for the advice there!

  • Will installing windows on a separate drive break my current linux install?
  • Yeaah.

Fortunally i got to convince the person to bring their whole PC, so now i won't have to deal with this anymore! Thank you very much for the answers you and everyone here!

  • Will installing windows on a separate drive break my current linux install?
  • Well i guess, i don't really have whole system backups, but not much important data to be lost either, i know backups are good, but i don't want my storage to go all on that...

Plus a broken boot on linux doesn't necessarily means all files were lost right? (Unless storage is encrypted, which mine isn't, but that's a different case)

  • Will installing windows on a separate drive break my current linux install?
  • Sadly only SATA ports can be disabled on my board, that doesn't seem to be possible to do to the nvme port, but thanks there!

  • Will installing windows on a separate drive break my current linux install?

So, i use linux, i don't have any windows install on my disk, but someone wants me to install windows on their HDD, so, if i plug said HDD on one of my sata ports and try to install windows 10 on it, will it mess with my linux boot? if yes, is there a way to prevent that without physically disconnecting my main drive? (my main is an nvme ssd, that's why I'd rather not remove it, already suffered enough trying to screw that in ther

Edit: Fortunally i got to convince the person to bring their whole PC, so now i won't have to deal with this anymore! Thank you very much for all the answers everyone

[Redmi Note 13] How to get rid of these notification icons at the top when DND and Mute are enabled?
  • Do not disturb hides all common notifications here on lineageOS, and that's what it did on all aosp's I've tried till now too

  • Is it possible to change my account's email on lemmy?
  • Hmm, here that does nothing, i tried pressing the save button at the bottom of the page and all that but it still resets to the same email i had before after i reload the page, maybe it's something on my instance

  • Is it possible to change my account's email on lemmy?
  • Huh, you just changed it on the settings?

  • Is there something you lack in Wayland but have in xorg?
  • Huh weird, i tried two distros and DE's, arcolinux hyprland and kde on endeavor and both ran significantly slower, most noticebly on games (or a game, but i think that game should work on Wayland?) But even out of videogames the sistem still didn't felt that smooth

My processor is an i5 3470, i have some difficulties knowing if it should work like this or not, cuz there's not much info bout such processor running wayland

  • Is there something you lack in Wayland but have in xorg?
  • Wayland doesn't like my ivy bridge no gpu lil guy, so x11 best for me

[Linux question] How to disable an I3 keybinding when on an specific application?
  • It took me a while of looking at it and a youtube video but i think i got what this does, it's really pretty much what i need! Thank you very much for sharing it, didn't really knew about this groups thing

  • [Linux question] How to disable an I3 keybinding when on an specific application?
  • Seems nice, but i don't know if i got it... How would i do that? i don't have much of experience with all this script stuff...

  • [Linux question] How to disable an I3 keybinding when on an specific application?

So, i just started using I3 through Arcolinux, it's working pretty nicely all things considered but i'm having one little problem, a game i play uses keys that are very close to a keybind combination that is set here and that makes me accidentally trigger it sometimes, and i wanted to know how, if possible i can make so this keybind is disabled while I'm playing this game, searching for a solution i found this thread on reddit (yeah, lack of better places, but hey I'm asking here now so it's an opportunity to get some info on here!) That seems to be talking about pretty much what i need, buut i have no idea how to create these scripts and all that and i didn't had much success on searching on how to do this kind of thing before so... a little help please? Is there any more efficient method, or something like that?

  • Will copying files from one external drive to another create write tasks for my machine internal drive? how does that work?

So, i use linux with kde and was copying some gigabytes of files from a smartphone to a usb device and while doing that the system monitor kept showing that it was writing some mb/s and i got curious, is said writing happening to my ssd or is it just talking about the usb drive?

Is it possible to make audio from both channels come out of the "front left" on pulse audio?

I hope it's fine to ask this here, I'm using endeavor os with KDE and got some little speakers for my pc, they however only seem to play sound from the "front left" channel, is there a way to make pulse audio send all audio on it? Like, mono mode? I couldn't find anything that does that...

Edit: Found a solution! Like i said before in a comment on this post turned out i was running pipewire-pulse, so i could use pipewire solutions! tried easyeffects and it perfectly fitted my needs, thanks for all the responses everyone!

How would be the feeling of putting your hand inside a liquid that's 100% incapable of transferring heat?

This question studdenly appeared in my mind, A hypothetical liquid that is completely incapable of transferring (consequentially holding too, right?) Any heat in any way, how would it feel to touch it? We feel cold when heat gets out of our body and hot when it gets in right? Would it just feel perfectly neutral?
