  • 40/50 - an all time high for me. Many guesses, but mostly "educated" guesses rather than pure luck.

  • I hate it when I'm buying something and don't realise it's in US dollars until checkout and I have to re-evaluate the value of everything I'm buying.

  • Apologies to all football fans, I may have made a comment around the end of the first quarter about it being good to have a close match, which was apparently the Swans' cue to completely stop trying.

I was pleased with the symmetry of the scores though, with the Lions' goals and points both being exactly double the Swans, also everything being a multiple of three suits my numerical preferences.

  • I quite liked the cat near me last Halloween, that would often be seen snoozing in the window behind the bloody handprints on the glass.

Ended up on the ground because you can no longer balance while standing without something to hold on to = "had a fall"

  • The free food market was small today but I managed to get enough to pull together meals for a few days. My most urgent need was tomatoes and fruit, which I did manage to get. Now I just need to do a proper menu plan for the next few days and I'm set.

    Leaves. Mostly leaves.

  • I have completed the first part of the physical activity study I am part of, and have the first of my $50 Coles vouchers. I have been allocated to the control group, which means I am required to do nothing different to what I do now, and will be paid $150 for it! Can't complain about that πŸ™‚πŸ’°

  • I favour a dynamic approach where we adjust the clocks automatically every day to keep sunrise at the same time.

  • Are they directly above you? You could drill a small unobtrusive hole up through their floor and use it to fill their appartment with some sort of sleeping gas. Repeat every time they get too noisy. The closest thing you can get to an off switch for neighbours!

  • Sorry, mine's washed and hung up to dry already.

  • Daily Discussion Thread: 🌿πŸ₯¬πŸŒ Sunday, September 22, 2024
  • I think we need to readjust things a bit to fix that. I propose we all adjust our clocks so that sunrise is an hour later in the day. Who's with me?

  • Dancing on a mountain of bones sounds like a bit of a risky manoeuvre. We survive Covid and die after tripping over a badly placed femur, rolling down the side of the mountain and being crushed under an avalanche of skulls.

Perhaps we can crush the bones and use them to create a nice, flat, hard-packed dancefloor instead?

  • Daily Discussion Thread: πŸΆπŸ§… Saturday, September 21, 2024
  • Some people apparently are just resistant to it. I still haven't had it, and haven't had a covid vax for a couple of years now. It's been floating around at work on a semi-regular basis so I'm pretty sure I would have been exposed quite a few times.

  • You're overthinking it. Just answer the questions as best you can and don't worry about the rest of the details - they are not doing a detailed analysis of your site, they will just be doing a rough classification to identify rough links in the aggregate data.

What's for dinner tonight? Fri 29 Dec 2023

I'm starting the post early today because I'm so excited for my yummy dinner plans! I did not get any turkey at Christmas, so tonight I'm roasting half a turkey for myself and having Second Christmas 😁

Is anyone doing Christmas baking this year?

I'm planning on making a biscuit Christmas tree today, and would love to see other people's Christmas creations too. So if you have made any yummy treats this year please post pics here so we can all enjoy.

Edit: post updated to show the tree I made

Air Fryer roast potatoes - what's your favourite recipe?

I have just joined the bandwagon and purchased an air fryer, and I have offered to do the potatoes in it for Christmas.

Can anyone suggest a favourite air fryer recipe for potatoes that would go well with a roast?

    Chillagoe, QLD. Remains of smelter.

Taken 20 years ago in the remote Queensland town of Chillagoe. Known for limestone caves, Aboriginal art, nesting sites for the white-rumped swiftlet, and as the final resting place of my Volvo, which never made it home.

Managing content & setting up ongoing discussions

The way Lemmy is organised tends to focus users on new and popular content, which means that slower moving ongoing conversations tend to sink in the page and get overlooked. A lot of valuable content is created in those slower discussions, so I am trying to set up ways to keep them visible and findable. I believe for a good group a moderator needs to be part librarian, not just rule enforcer.

I am creating ongoing topic threads which are linked to from the sidebar, and will also be linking them in the daily discussion thread where most activity in my group currently occurs. I am also looking into creating regular posts for specific topic discussions, which should help searchability. Making the system more complicated leads to users not following it though, so I want it to be as simple as possible to use and not have too many things like that happening at one time.

I would love to hear any other suggestions or about things you are doing to set up the structure of your groups.

    > A collection of flowers I photographed in the Grampians. These date back to 2008, when I would have been using a little 3mp Nikon compact camera I got 2nd hand.

Feeding time at National Zoo and Aquarium in Canberra.

This is a really great zoo and I highly recommend a visit for anyone in the area. If you can afford it the overnight stay at Jamala lodge is absolutely amazing too.

A nice little spot I visited early in the morning when the light was perfect for photos. There are a few pieces of old machinery dotted around too.
