Bulletins and News Discussion from June 17th to June 23rd, 2024 - Macron's Gambit - COTW: France
  • I hate to say it but this basically makes no sense. T2D is characterized by systemic insulin resistance that leads to decreased beta cell function. Every cell in your body already doesn't respond to insulin the way they're supposed to, so even the wild best case scenario of restoring complete beta cell function wouldn't be a "cure."

My guess as to why no one is hearing about this is that China doesn't buy it. They used to heavily promote questionable research 15-20+ years ago to the point where if you saw something that looked like a major breakthrough coming out of China you could almost always dismiss it as bs (Israel used to do this as well. They still do, but they used to too). They seem to have put a ton of effort into changing this culture in research and it's paying off tremendously and the quality of research coming from there is now seriously high quality.

  • Verso Books is actually putting this out this summer
  • Solar panels kill birds and windmills don't work in the winter. If nuclear wasn't the only truly green energy source, why does it glow that color.?

I believe that's what they call, in the business, a checkmate.

  • What would it take for them to realize Genocide Joe isn't even trying to win?
  • Just look at Israel. The Democratic party Hulked the fuck out, closed ranks, and absolutely shattered any and all opposition to the genocide. They are more than capable of exercising massive political power but for some reason they only ever do it for terrible things and never for "that great thing that they weawwy weawwy want if it wasn't for those mean ol' Republicans."

  • China Launches World's First Fourth-Generation Nuclear Reactor
  • I mean the alternative is the literal and guaranteed disruption of the planet's ability to sustain human civilization. It would be nice if we could magic up enough energy to meet society's demands or return to monke without hundreds of millions starving to death, but that's not a real option.

  • Hey I’ve seen this one
  • I think that the US is going to really really want Israel to not do a ground invasion of Lebanon but also that the time of the US "letting" and "not letting" its proxies do things is a distant memory.

  • "We have scientific socialism at home", scientific socialism at home:
  • I can't express with words how much I love this post.

My younger brother is a lifelong conservative and I'm always trying to chip away at his ideology. I think that the most impactful thing I've ever said to him to get him to question capitalism's organization of labor and resources was something along the lines of "We have incredible modern technology that has almost unlimited capacity to change the way that people live and function in the world, and the people who are the most skilled and educated in developing that technology are spending 100% of their time trying to serve you slightly more relevant banner ads.

  • Jesus Christ I hate Reddit

I deleted Reddit from my home screen when the mods did the fake strike and I've mostly kept off of it since then, but in the past few weeks I've opened it out of boredom and holy God is it just a truly awful place. My only explanation is that it's a window into the psyche of the American middle class email job worker and they're so fucking brain rotten that it hurts to even look at.

I thought I was misremembering or that !reddit-logo was just a good meme, but that site really does represent the absolute worst of American liberalism. I don't even have anything specific to say, I just need to scrape out the festering mass that a 15 minute scroll session there created in my brain.
