What was "the incident" in your school?
  • Kids step dad found an unfired mortar while working on base. Kid brought it to school and dropped it in the band room. Thankfully no one died, but there was still a shrapnel ring in the room when i graduated a few years later.

  • What is a well known 'public secret' in the industry you work in that the majority of outsiders are unaware of?
  • Most automotive technicians in the US are paid 100% commission. The idea of being sold something you didn't know you needed is how we make our money. Also shops will employ more techs than they need because it doesn't cost them if we're sitting around, waiting for the next job.

  • Can we prevent cars from sending data to servers if we remove their antennae?
  • The manufacturer that i work for has esims built into every vehicle they build that cannot be removed without bricking the vehicle. I feel like this is pretty much industry standard at this point. They used to have a removable sim, but there was an esim along side that so you could not completely disconnect.
