Banana Republic isnt a good thing.
  • Buying from shitty companies that exploit a country won't help people on that country.

Those companies do not inject money on the cities they enter. They bribe politicians for advantages, destroy the natural resources, and go as close to slave work as they can while paying no taxes.

  • Linux laptop recommendation thread🐧💻
  • Choose whatever laptop you like, and do a quick search on the model for incompatibilities. If there's something critical or long-term, like a very specific hardware module not working well without its proprietary driver, consider changing, but most of the time, Linux will just work.

For distro, PopOS is good. It doesn't come with a bunch of bloatware, but it is also not barebones. Mint is also a great choice.

  • Ukraine war: Burger King still open in Russia despite pledge to exit
  • War profiteer is an interesting way to look at it. If a company doesn't cut ties with warmonger countries, they are war profiteers ?

They should also get away from US, Israel, Saudi Arabia, and most of the "developed" countries that are historically exploiting poor countries ?

They sell fucking burguers, if they manage to not put too much garbage in the food to save money, they are doing enough.

  • I miss older html internet
  • I dont think that usability or acessibility gets so much in the way. It's more about thinking webpages as applications instead of documents. Plain html is easier for screenreaders and larger fonts. You can also get responsive with very little css.

Simplicity is just not the goal anymore.

  • Insanity
  • Something that i liked very much on some games was choosing the assets you want to download, you want to play on low, no need to download ultra high res textures.

The thing is, using less resources is always an optimization cost for the company. If the user will just get better hardware, there's not much incentive for spending on that. Unless the company aims for devices with lower hardware like switch, deck or mobile.

  • TIL that on Firefox you can unload tabs from memory without closing them
  • This, if you want to act on something later, just create a bookmark and set a reminder, act on what you need, then close and move on, don't clutter your browser and your head.

Usually, i open one window for each task, so i don't get a lot of unrelated content mixed up and loose focus. I rarely need more than 1~5 tabs.

  • Is anyone else having trouble giving up Reddit due to content?
  • There's more than one way to boycott something. I still search stuff there, but giving nothing back, i block ads and trackers, do not post, comment, or vote. For them, i am just a waste of server resources.
