Windows 10 on my main computer, Mint on my HTPC which is getting a lot more use.
We’re in the season of tax returns and now is a great time for scammers to strike. Here’s some things to keep an eye out for but it’s not exclusive.
- unless you have engaged an accountant, no one will contact you about your tax except myGov
- if myGov contact you, they won’t tell you to do anything except check your inbox (exception is security codes but you will have initiated the reason for this)
- if myGov contact you, DO NOT CLICK ANY LINKS. They don’t send them.
- if you get a message from mygov and it shows a phone number, it’s a scam. MyGov messages will only say they are from myGov. This isn’t a guarantee that it’s legit, but the lack of it means scam.
Please add more tips below to ensure people don’t get caught out.

Spotify web player with a good ad block at least gets around the “supporting them” bit.
An Evangelion AMV to I’m Not Okay by My Chemical Romance. I even remember the user but I haven’t been able to find since it got wiped off YouTube over 10 years ago.
Theme Hospital I still go back to on occasion. I’ve seen Two Point but it’s not the same.
If you’re using a 3b just be aware that hevc and x265 files won’t play properly.
Could be a case of “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it”
I’ve got a website based on Joomla that is over 10 years old. I know Wordpress is a better option and have been using it for other stuff for the last 5 years.
Why isn’t the first one migrated over to Wordpress? Because I can’t be fucked, it still works.
Obviously the answers here might be a bit lower than other places…
It could still be worthwhile, just not as your only option. Do your local archiving as well but having it uploaded elsewhere could come in handy if the shit hits the fan.
Peertube, Nebula, Patreon, etc. You don’t have to use YouTube.
Most third-party apps don’t show ads which lessens the potential revenue for the first-party. Their idea is that by stopping these options, people will use the “official” methods which will allow serving of ads.
They’re now going back and upgrading it at a cost of even more dollars to get it to where it should’ve been ten years ago.
EZTV and EXT Torrents cover me alright. Nyaa.si for the anime side.
If I’m interacting with a business and then that business closes the method I’m using then fuck them I leave. I’ve done it with streaming services as my preferred devices have lost support through upgrades as well and I’ve done it at restaurants for forcing QR code menus.
Two of my three main subs have migrated over here including the whole family of one of them. And once I tried Lemmy I really liked it and support the concepts and philosophy.
So I’ll only go back to the old place to check in on that last main sub periodically until an alternative appears or I talk myself into creating it.
I haven’t really worried about cracked games since I started using Steam years ago but I had a bit of a revelation today regarding my willingness to play something and my willingness to pay for it. So my question is are there any risks to the standing of a Steam account if you play cracked games on the same system?
Being able to jump back a page without snapping to the top is the only issue I have with the PWA set up I’ve got. Otherwise it’s great as is.
Sylveon, but I’ve got a soft spot for the Gen 1 starters too.
Anyone here got any recommendations for paid cloud storage options? Given where we are I’m looking for piracy friendly options.
I don’t use it but Matrix/XMPP is what you’re looking for.
Another Australian here who drinks water on tap. Some places have bad tasting water but it’s still drinkable. It’s probably only bad because it’s different.
Finding information and torrent sites is pretty easy and well covered in the mega thread.
Is there any chance Usenet sources and info can be added?
That’s my general request but my personal request; are there any Usenet sources that are recommended for general, music, anime and/or pro wrestling content? I’m familiar with XWT and Nyaa.si on the torrent side.
With new streamers constantly launching and lockdowns changing watching patterns, film and TV piracy is mounting a comeback. Can anything be done?
Slightly older (2021) article I found while searching for this place. It pretty much says what we’ve all been saying.
