Republican Who Oversaw Mayorkas Impeachment Will Not Seek Re-election
  • No, that's too trivial. If I was a conspiracy moved person I'd wonder if he has a 'political donor' who has a retirement nest egg setup for him one the impeachment was voted and passed.

It was an easy enough bar to get over in our political climate and gives a good sound bite for everyone else.

And his opponent won't have this decision to use against him in the next election since I'll be someone else who will be able to deflect and still attract the same voters.

  • Chinese-origin US Navy officer jailed for selling military secrets to China
  • Wenheng Zhao [...] received at least $14,866 in bribe in exchange for secret military information [...]

But a fine of only $5,500? It's apparently profitable to be a BAD spy, too

My opinion: the fine should be AT LEAST 2x (if not 10x) what the bribes were. And not dismissible in bankruptcy.

  • Cox deletes ‘Active Listening’ ad pitch after boasting that it eavesdrops though our phones
  • My take is two fold: 1- Marketing over selling their product (common practice) 2- The "always listening" devices are mainly their Smart Remotes that have a microphone built in.

#2 Seems the most likely as is a device fully in their control and can pull as much ad marketing / information gathering details from it as they want.

  • Ask HN: What was the outcome of Reddit blackout?
  • Agreed. I used to be able to rely on adding "reddit" to my Google searches to get relevant and insightful information. That still works today (soon after the exodus), but the information there will slowly age out of relevance. By the time they figure that out it'll be to late for them to pull out.

  • Really makes you stop and think
  • Thank you for shopping for the source, and as others have said it's not too hard to use your favorite search engine to find current reputable sources.

One that you can look into right away is: https://www.moneygeek.com/living/states-most-reliant-federal-government/

But please do your own research and don't rely on a meme site alone... 🙂

  • A Supreme Court redistricting ruling gave hope to Black voters. They're still waiting for new maps
  • Easy solution: All elections in the state after the supreme Court decision need to be invalid and on hold until the new redistricting is approved.

Don't get it done by the next election? Sorry, your ballots and electrics don't count.

It's disenfranchisement, but for everyone, not just the ones whose gerrymandering selected.

  • Linux 6.6 To Better Protect Against The Illicit Behavior Of NVIDIA's Proprietary Driver
  • I'm not an expert but this is what I understand from a podcast l listened to (https://twit.tv/shows/untitled-linux-show):

There's a subset of Linux users who desire or need GPL compliant environments for they purposes (personal or work related).

There's a kernel flag that is set to track if the drivers or gas loaded are also 100% GPL.

NVidia wrote their own video driver which is NOT GPL compliant, so as soon as they are loaded the kennel flag is set to "not GPL". To get around the simple checks for GPL compliant drivers, NVidia wrote a wrapper (a "condom") to lie that it was GPL-compliant when it was violating the GPL flag meaning.

The Linux 6.6 release apparently has more protections to keep NVidia from working around the GPL check. (For now...)

  • Q: What are the five (5) video games from the 20th Century that you want to be able to play again today? And why?
  • Descent - really loved the immersive 3D world and gameplay.

But I must have my CH Flightstick Pro to get the most out of the manuverability of the ships.

Of course I haven't played it in 30 years so I might be a tad rusty now even if I have all the gaming upgrades. 😁
